Georgia Department of Natural Resources awards grant for more than $254,000

A grant of more than $254,000 awarded to Georgia Southern University will provide the first comprehensive assessment of Georgia’s working waterfronts since 1975. Although location data on docks was gathered by Georgia Southern researchers between 2018-21 through a Georgia Sea Grant project, there is no in-depth information on the current conditions of each dock and its infrastructure, according to Jennifer Sweeney Tookes, Ph.D., a Georgia Southern associate anthropology professor. The new grant funds a three-year project in which a group of three to five students each year will receive intensive training in qualitative research methods, as well as the complexities associated with managing Georgia’s coast, and commercial fishing industry.

FAADroneZone System Update

Drone pilots are expected to comply with the original September 16, 2023 compliance date for Remote ID. However, the FAA understands that some drone pilots may not be able to comply because of limited availability of broadcast modules and lack of approved FAA-Recognized Identification Areas. In those instances, the FAA will consider all factors in determining whether to take enforcement action through March 16, 2024. It's important to note that the FAA expects drone pilots to comply with the requirements of the Remote ID rule as soon as possible. Read the full policy at Enforcement Policy Regarding Operator Compliance Deadline for Remote Identification of Unmanned Aircraft.

DJI (the major drone provider) has a firmware update available for pilots to install Remote ID capability for many models purchased in the last 3 years. Please click the link below.
