CELEBRATING OUR CONNECTION TO CHRIST

Message from Pastor Jackie

Blessed Holy Week and Happy Easter, friends in Christ.

As you enter into the celebration of Holy Week, how will your spiritual cup be filled?

On Tuesday, I attended the Chrism mass with other Rostered leaders in the Greater Milwaukee Synod. A Chrism mass is a special service where oil is blessed for use in anointing, Rostered leaders renew our ordination vows, and share Holy Communion. God renewed me and filled my cup, preparing me to experience Holy Week.

The preacher asked the question—how do we live into Holy Week?

$100K IN ONE DAY

FP Giving Day on April 11 is an opportunity to change lives.

Help us reach our ambitious goal of raising $100,000 in one day on Family Promise Giving Day, Thursday, April 11. Our theme is: $100K in one day will give families a home to stay!

These funds will be used to:

  • Prevent family homelessness
  • Provide shelter to families experiencing homelessness
  • Expand our Apartment Shelter Program into Oconomowoc

As the need to expand services to families has grown, so have our expenses. It is imperative that we respond to maintain and grow our level of service.

We are hopeful that we will be able to meet this goal thanks to the challenge grant fund established by a few individuals and businesses. The generosity of two anonymous individuals along with Mike and Amanda Hallquist, the American Transmission Company, Bank Five Nine, and GE HealthCare (matching an individual gift), over 50% of our goal is committed already!

Even with this great start, we need your help!

Raising the additional funds is a significant increase over past Giving Day years. This will not be easy.  We need everyone to give generously and share this need in order to reach this ambitious goal. LEARN MORE ABOUT FP GIVING DAY Below

Hey CTK!Wondering about how to follow God in congregational renewal? Looking for new ideas? Want to gather with other congregations to share and hear inspiring stories? We’d like to gather a group of people to attend this event with possibly, Jeff Wittrock, our council president.

Here’s the exciting invitation from the Greater Milwaukee Synod:

Adventures in Renewal Co-Lab Day

APRIL 28 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This event is for all who are engaged in, or curious about, mission renewal, mission coaching, and innovation! Join us as we gather to share stories of how God is renewing our sense of mission, learn from those who have been experiencing renewal, and be energized together for our next steps.

There is no cost to attend, because of the generosity of the congregations participating in the Equipping the Saints Mission Appeal. However, we do ask that each person from your congregation who plans to attend register in advance so we have an accurate count for materials.

Location: Schuetze Recreation Center (Activity Room)

1120 Baxter Street

Waukesha, 53186

Reformation Good Friday Walk - Thank you

Thank you to those who were able to join us this afternoon for our annual Good Friday Walk. We visited six stations that mark signs of both suffering and transformation, just like the cross. During the reflections and prayers at each station, it was often hard to hear. A simple sound system is not always a good match for being outside in city noise. Perhaps the noise is appropriate; I think Jesus prioritizes the "noise" and "traffic" of our lives as a place to meet us, offering a hand to say, "Here, this way, I got you."

I have attached a copy of the reflections and prayers for each of our stations this year. They are worthy signs of hope to know about in the Washington Park Neighborhood that we dearly love and deeply feel God's call to continue to serve.

Again, thank you for joining us today. Blessings to each of you as we now continue walking toward Easter morning.

Grace and Peace,

Vicar Steve Smart

An Easter Message from Bishop Erickson

Last November, I participated in an ELCA Regional Consultation for synods that have companion relationships with churches in Latin America and the Caribbean. The theme for this event was “Reconnect, Renew, Rise Again,” and as you can see in the event logo, it was based on the Japanese art form known as “kintsugi.” This describes the process in which broken pottery is repaired by using a special gold lacquer, treating the breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

Easter Message From ELCA Presiding Bishop Eaton

In her Easter message to the church, Bishop Eaton focuses on three words that describe what the women at tomb experienced when the angel announced that Jesus had been raised from the dead: fear, amazement and being seized or possessed.

Equipping the Saints Greater Milwaukee Synod Mission Appeal

Members of CTK, we have the opportunity to participate in the important work of donating to this campaign alongside other churches in the Greater Milwaukee Synod area.

The amount already collected has had a far-reaching impact on the mission and ministries of the church. Here’s a story from Pastor Karl-John Stone at House of Prayer in Franklin. The congregation has received one of the innovation grants to support a coach to guide a process of listening and growing in ministry.

At House of Prayer, our team of 6 was enthusiastic and curious about learning the Faithful Innovation process, but we didn’t know how to get started. We needed a wise and helpful guide to help us learn what Faithful Innovation was all about, begin our experiments, reflect on the results, and make adaptations for the future. The synod provided Pastor Andy Fetters as our coach, and he was exactly who we needed. Faithful Innovation has really helped us to grow spiritually as a congregation, and to begin the slow but essential process of becoming more connected with people outside the walls of our church. The funding of a coach from the “Equipping the Saints” mission appeal is making a lasting impact on the vitality of our congregation!

Additionally, ETS funds are supporting rostered ministers as part of the ETS initiative in leadership by the way of leadership grants. General Grants are open to all rostered ministers and can be requested for continuing education, additional retirement contributions, or student loan payments. BIPOC/LGBTQIA+ grants are given to candidates or rostered ministries of these communities that often have additional needs during candidacy, wait longer for a call, and serve in ministries that pay below guidelines.

2023

57 grants given totaling $69,100

·        General Grants totaled $50,100

·        BIPOC/LGBTQIA Grants totaled $19,000

2024 to date (we are still open)

44 grants totaling $88,200

·        General Grants totaled $31,200

·        BIPOC/LGBTQIA Grants totaled $57,000 (these are closed)

This week, your bulletin will contain more information about the campaign. Pledge cards will be due to the office by April 14th

Please prayerfully consider a generous donation to this campaign.

Shalom,

Pr. Jackie
