CELEBRATING OUR CONNECTION TO CHRIST

Equipping The Saints Appeal of the Greater Milwaukee Synod.

Friends in Christ, Sunday April 14 begins the last week of CTK’s hosting the ETS

mission appeal. If the Spirit moves you to donate, pledge cards will be available in

the Sunday bulletin. They can be returned with the regular offering or to the office.

Here is another story about how the Missional Tithe Supports Leadership

Development In Diocese Of Meru, Tanzania

The Equipping the Saints mission appeal includes a 10% tithe to ministries outside of the

synod, with the first tithe sent on the total funds received in 2021. The tithe for the leadership

initiative was sent to our two global partners.

In May 2022, the Diocese of Meru used these funds to host a three-day Leadership

Training event for parish pastors and other leaders on active listening and other

leadership skills.

Participants Share the Impact of this Training:

“One of the greatest challenges facing our world today is not only the hunger for peace and the hunger for justice, but also the hungering for good governance and the hungering for good leadership.”– Bishop Elias Kitoi

“Effective listening can make you learn different perspectives and make you a good

leader. Just be open to reports; be open to criticism; be open to positive feedback. This will increase the capacity of your leadership.” – Workshop participant Dr. Samuel Kiwesa

“We have learned a lot. We have built our skills and improved our awareness. We

want to go and share with [those] in our different institutions so we can improve what

we are supposed to do.”

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this funding appeal.

In Christ, Pr. Jackie

Church Organ Notes

The work that was done last year on our organ gave us the capability to record music in a permanent memory bank with lots of storage. You may have noticed at times that the organ plays with no one at the keyboard. It's not a recording of what was previously played, rather the music is recorded in a memory bank and then plays back live with no one at the moment playing the keys and pedals.

This has been a wonderful option for our Director of Music/ Organist to practice on a weekday or evening, and take several takes, if necessary, to record postludes and or preludes for our weekend services without interruptions, cameras, nerves, or slips by the organ or the player. This takes some pressure off the Sunday lineup and allows the DM to listen, visit and enjoy and hear the organ from a distance. Thanks to all who support the care of this beautiful instrument.

Greater Milwaukee Synod News

An Easter Message from Bishop Erickson

Last November, I participated in an ELCA Regional Consultation for synods that have companion relationships with churches in Latin America and the Caribbean. The theme for this event was “Reconnect, Renew, Rise Again,” and as you can see in the event logo, it was based on the Japanese art form known as “kintsugi.” This describes the process in which broken pottery is repaired by using a special gold lacquer, treating the breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

Easter Message From ELCA Presiding Bishop Eaton

In her Easter message to the church, Bishop Eaton focuses on three words that describe what the women at tomb experienced when the angel announced that Jesus had been raised from the dead: fear, amazement and being seized or possessed.

Equipping the Saints Greater Milwaukee Synod Mission Appeal

Members of CTK, we have the opportunity to participate in the important work of donating to this campaign alongside other churches in the Greater Milwaukee Synod area.

The amount already collected has had a far-reaching impact on the mission and ministries of the church. Here’s a story from Pastor Karl-John Stone at House of Prayer in Franklin. The congregation has received one of the innovation grants to support a coach to guide a process of listening and growing in ministry.

At House of Prayer, our team of 6 was enthusiastic and curious about learning the Faithful Innovation process, but we didn’t know how to get started. We needed a wise and helpful guide to help us learn what Faithful Innovation was all about, begin our experiments, reflect on the results, and make adaptations for the future. The synod provided Pastor Andy Fetters as our coach, and he was exactly who we needed. Faithful Innovation has really helped us to grow spiritually as a congregation, and to begin the slow but essential process of becoming more connected with people outside the walls of our church. The funding of a coach from the “Equipping the Saints” mission appeal is making a lasting impact on the vitality of our congregation!

Additionally, ETS funds are supporting rostered ministers as part of the ETS initiative in leadership by the way of leadership grants. General Grants are open to all rostered ministers and can be requested for continuing education, additional retirement contributions, or student loan payments. BIPOC/LGBTQIA+ grants are given to candidates or rostered ministries of these communities that often have additional needs during candidacy, wait longer for a call, and serve in ministries that pay below guidelines.

2023

57 grants given totaling $69,100

·        General Grants totaled $50,100

·        BIPOC/LGBTQIA Grants totaled $19,000

2024 to date (we are still open)

44 grants totaling $88,200

·        General Grants totaled $31,200

·        BIPOC/LGBTQIA Grants totaled $57,000 (these are closed)

This week, your bulletin will contain more information about the campaign. Pledge cards will be due to the office by April 14th

Please prayerfully consider a generous donation to this campaign.

Shalom,

Pr. Jackie
