It amazes me sometimes how long bad work and bad design can last. Recently we took in a old European laminated bass with a loose neck, we've been blogging its repair progress over on www.StringRepair.com
We've never seen such a poorly executed neck joint...and one that held for so long! We strive to do things here right the first time, following traditional violin-making techniques that are tried and tested for 100's of years, and could never think of skimping on something as critical as a solid, well fit, traditional neck set...yet this is exactly where so many shops decide to cut corner. I have to imagine that if a poorly fit and executed neck set can survive 50 to 75 years, ours should lest for 100 more than that easy!
