Statement of Manuel Cruz

Candidate for Mayor of Glendale

on the Phoenix Coyotes agreements:

"Yesterday, the Glendale City Council voted 4-2 to move Hockey in Glendale to a place no other professional sports franchise enjoys.

It is unfortunate the Council made the decisions they did without having fully vetted the agreements in the public eye. Decisions made in closed-door meetings out of the eye of taxpayers.

These agreements come at a time when Glendale is laying off workers, reducing needed services, and raising taxes that will hurt our small businesses and most vulnerable citizens.

While I am not the current Mayor of Glendale, I can tell you that I would not have done things this way. I am disappointed in my City Council.

Let me be clear. I support the concept of a Hockey team in Glendale. However, like any other Glendale business, it should pay its own way."
