State Civil Service Announces Retirement of State Civil Service Commissioner John McLure
Mr. John McLure, longtime member of the State Civil Service Commission, recently announced his intent to retire from the Commission effective June 6, 2024.
Mr. McLure has served on the Commission since 2001. He was appointed to the State Civil Service Commission after being nominated by Louisiana College and appointed by Governor Mike Foster. He has been subsequently nominated and reappointed by former Governors Kathleen Blanco, Bobby Jindal, and John Bel Edwards.
“On behalf the Commission and our Department, we would like to express our profound gratitude, admiration, and appreciation for Mr. John McLure, who has devoted over 23 years of his life to this state with unwavering dedication,” said State Civil Service Director Byron P. Decoteau, Jr. “Mr. McLure has been a steadfast advocate of for the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability within the merit system, while also championing site-based management to empower agency heads to fulfill their missions.”
“It has been a pleasure to work with all the directors, and other members of the Commission over the years. It has meant a lot to me to be able to move Louisiana state government in the right direction,” said McLure in his remarks at the May Commission meeting.
