Total solar eclipse to soar through Athens

Athens is just outside the zone of totality for the total solar eclipse Monday, April 8, which will be one of the biggest celestial events of the year. In Athens, the maximum eclipse will occur around 3:15 p.m. A solar eclipse happens because the moon orbits Earth and Earth orbits the sun. The planes of those two orbits are offset from one another by a 5-degree angle, and about every 18 months, the orbits line up, casting a shadow, Douglas Clowe, professor and director of the Astrophysics Institute, said. Click here to read the full story.

Will Congress ban TikTok?

March 13, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversity Controlled Applications Act to eliminate TikTok on U.S. soil. This bill targets the app's parent company, ByteDance, based in China. In 2017, the company acquired the app Musical.ly and merged it with TikTok. Since then, TikTok has exploded internationally, with over one billion users. Click here to read more.

Aug. 18, 2022, my parents and I sat at Casa Nueva and reminisced on the past 18 years of our lives together. They had just moved me into my freshman dorm and were about to leave me to my own devices for the first time. As I tried to find my way back to East Green, still misty-eyed from our goodbyes, I thought nothing would ever top the level of independence I was feeling. That is, until I shared similarly misty-eyed goodbyes with my parents before beginning my semester abroad.
