OU Trombone Society fosters a love for music among trombonists

Abreanna Blose | March 20, 2024

On any given Monday night, the fourth floor of Glidden Hall is flooded with the bold, soulful sounds of trombones. The source of the melodies is the Ohio University Trombone Society, or OUTS, an organization built on a collective love for the distinctive brass instrument. Hunter Sheafer, a junior studying music education and the president of OUTS, has been playing the trombone since his junior year of high school. Sheafer decided to join the trombone society because he believed it was an opportunity to network with other passionate musicians. Now, as the current president, Sheafer explained his goal as OUTS' leader is simple. “I just want people to have fun and learn something,” Sheafer said. Click here to read the full story.

In a mid-week matchup, Ohio traveled to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to face off against Northern Kentucky. Ohio is coming off a series win against Kent State last weekend, winning the first two games but losing the third. Northern Kentucky has been hot lately, winning its last seven games. Northern Kentucky scored 8 runs in the first inning, with only 4 of those runs being credited as earned. Down 18-12, Ohio would only be able to score 1 run in the ninth inning, losing 18-13. Click here to read the full breakdown.

People have always cared, but now that care has turned into a necessity. Some brands use sustainability to attract buyers without showing proof of sustainable efforts and use awareness of our new reality to spark concern for the impact of every choice. With the internet at our fingertips, keeping up with news and environmental concerns has never been easier. Click here to read the full story.

Grace Abroad: UK underestimates opportunities in journalism

Grace Koennecke | March 20, 2024

One of the biggest culture shocks for me since moving to the U.K. is the university's approach to journalism coursework compared to the U.S. Unlike the rigorous, hands-on environment created back home, Swansea University uses a more laid-back teaching style, paired with fewer assignments and fieldwork to allow students to explore the major on their own terms. Click here for the differences in journalism courses in the UK.
