MCWD Volunteers Beautify Vets Center on Earth Day

Employees Team Up to Help Veterans

Collage of photos of staff pulling weeds at Veterans Center.

In honor of Earth Day 2024, the Marina Coast Water District spent a day beautifying the Veterans Transition Center of California in Marina. Breaking into teams early morning, employees weeded flower beds, mowed tall grass, and trimmed overgrown shrubs and trees from existing landscape adjacent to Imjin Road. Staff then used a tractor to remove invasive ice plant, and throughout the afternoon dug out weeds between cracks and crevices all around the building.

After clean up, staff took pride in Earth Day mission accomplished: preparing Marina Veterans Center for new planting.

District Supports Conservation at Marina Garden Tour

Save Water and Costs with Rebates and Incentives

Nine photo collage of native gardens at Marina garden tour.

The Marina Coast Water District hosted a Conservation booth at the recent Marina Garden Tour where attendees viewed a variety of native garden designs. Our Conservation Specialist explained about outdoor water efficiency with low-water-use plants and the landscape rebates and incentive programs offered by the District.

Eight home gardens were on display where viewers learned how Central Coast #native_plants save water, time, and money as a natural landscape option. Visitors enjoyed strolling through a straw bale veggie garden, zen-low-water-succulent designs, a pizza oven with outdoor entertainment, and saw examples of native restoration.

For questions about water-saving rebates and incentives, contact our Conservation Dept at (831) 883-5905 or conservation@mcwd.org.
