Introducing the newest Ambassadors

The Ambassadors Program would like to welcome its newest members, Annalise Traub and Brittany Gore. Both are members of the CalFresh Healthy Living, UC team, with Annalise based out of the UCCE office in Yolo County and Brittany based out of Los Angeles County.

When asked what they’re looking forward to most as Ambassadors, both agreed that connecting with other staff members across counties and programs is exciting.

As Ambassadors, Annalise and Brittany will represent their local office at monthly Ambassador meetings, communicate opportunities for Staff Assembly to serve ANR staff, and promote Staff Assembly and ANR activities.

If you cross paths with Annalise or Brittany, be sure to introduce yourself! Annalise has recently started watercolor painting and loves the Mexican rock band, Maná. Brittany, who is creative and enjoys reading and writing, listens to Kendrick Lamar, along with 2000s hip hop and ’90s gospel music.

Aug. 24: Grassroots Engagement and Social Justice Through Cooperative Extension

Hosted by Nia Imani Fields, this webinar (Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to noon) features the co-editors of the book "Grassroots Engagement and Social Justice Through Cooperative Extension." Rooted in an understanding of the history and development of Extension, the authors focus on contemporary efforts to address systemic inequities. They offer an alternative to the “expert” model that would have Extension educators provide information detached from the difficult and sometimes contentious issues that shape community work.

Roth option now available in UC retirement program

Editor's note: This new section of the newsletter will highlight benefits and resources available to UC staff.

The University of California Retirement Savings Program has enhanced your retirement benefits with a new Roth contribution option.

This gives you more flexibility to save and plan for your future through regular pretax contributions, new Roth contributions, or both.

A Roth contribution is an after-tax contribution to the UC 403(b) Plan or UC 457(b) Plan that gives you the opportunity for tax-free income in retirement. This is because your Roth distributions (including earnings) can be withdrawn free of federal income tax (if certain requirements are met).

Visit MyUCRetirement.com to review the UC Roth Guide and learn more.

Or attend a special webinar "Ways to Save with Roth," on Sept. 13 (1 p.m.) or Sept. 19 (10 a.m.).

The Current is your monthly Staff Assembly e-newsletter, distributed on the second Tuesday of each month (read archived past issues). All staff members at UC Agriculture and Natural Resources are part of UC ANR Staff Assembly. We on the Staff Assembly Council help advise senior leadership and advocate on your behalf, and we also organize programs and events that promote your professional development and personal growth. (Note: Academics are members of our counterpart entity, Academic Assembly.)
