Worship at St. Peter's

This Sunday, April 21, Pastor Steve will continue the sermon series entitled A Ragtag Company - according to the Book of Acts, by bringing the message Wronged for What's Right from Acts 4:5-14.

St. Peter's wants to ensure you get the most out of in-house worship. If you are having difficulties hearing the message, sound-amplifying devices are available at the back of the Sanctuary. Ask an usher to assist you.

Joy Wright gives the FLOWERS this Sunday in celebration of Steve's birthday.

MUSIC NOTES

Fairest Lord Jesus

Fairest Lord Jesus is a well-known and much-loved traditional hymn – for over 300 years, it has been sung and cherished – but many specific details are lost in time. It is known to have first been printed in a German hymnbook in 1677, with text adapted from a 1662 Jesuit manuscript, but the author and the composer are unknown.

In 1842, the text was paired with the tune we sing today. Originally titled ASCALON, the compiler of the hymnbook said that he had heard the tune sung by German haymakers. The tune was used by Franz Liszt in ‘The Crusaders’ March’ in an 1864 oratorio (“The Legend of St. Elizabeth”), and it is often referred to as CRUSADERS’ HYMN in the mistaken belief that soldiers sang it on the way to Jerusalem during the First Crusade.

Regardless of the title given to the tune, the message of the hymn has remained the same: Jesus is ruler of all and is adored by his children; he is fairer than all of creation and shines brighter and purer than ‘all the angels heaven can boast.’ The final stanza echoes the first and concludes with a feeling of a doxology:

Glory and honor, praise, adoration,

now and forevermore be thine.

Exodus - Learning to Trust God

Begins May 1

Trust God. Sounds simple, right? Yet, you know it is often very, very difficult to trust God with the things that matter most to you--money, career, marriage, health. As we study the book of Exodus, we'll see that Israel faced similar struggles to trust God completely. In this story of hardship and hope, we'll discover along with Israel that God--and God alone--is worthy of our trust.

Bring your favorite Bible as we read and discuss the Israelites’ journey out of Egypt, prompted by discussion questions from the Life Guide series.

Seven Powerful

Claims of Christ

begins this Saturday

In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses “I Am” statements that tell his listeners exactly who he is: the Bread of Life; the Light of the World; the Gate; the Good Shepherd; the Resurrection and the Life; the Way, the Truth, and the Life; and the True Vine. These claims infuriated the religious leaders and eventually led to Jesus’ crucifixion. This six-session study examines Jesus’ extraordinary claims and shows how Jesus provides, protects, guides, saves, and gives everything we need to grow in spiritual maturity.

Join us this Saturday, April 20, as we explore the Seven Powerful Claims of Christ.
