Beloved,

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you I will be ending my ministry at St. Paul’s a little earlier than planned. The original agreement was that I would be with you through January of 2025. This year, however, has been a very challenging one for me personally, and so I feel it

necessary to step back from ministry here. My last Sunday with you will be July 28th.

The wardens, vestry and our bishop have all been very supportive of this decision. The diocese already has a priest who will be stepping in to help, so there will be no interruption in the worship services, pastoral care or administration. The church leadership will now be working on the process of beginning the search for a new permanent rector for St. Paul’s. In the meantime, all of the ministries and activities will continue as normal.

The good news is that much of the work to revitalize the church has already been completed or is in process. You have an incredibly dedicated and faithful vestry, leadership team and staff! You also know the Dream that God has for you and this community, and you are already working towards it.

It has been an incredible joy and privilege to serve as your priest this past year and a half. It has been such a blessing! I have been astounded in which you each of you has responded to God’s call in so many ways – all of the new ministries that have formed, the revitalization of our Sunday worship services, the reorganization of our basic ministries, and so much more. It has been nothing less than the power of God’s Spirit at work with and within you!

I will continue to hold each of you and St. Paul’s in my daily prayers as you begin the final phase of your transition and the call of your new rector. Thank you for all your love, support and partnership.

Godspeed!

Simon+

Walk in Love:

Thoughts from the Stewardship Committee

The Episcopal church calendar moves through seasons -- this is the Green Time. We are all part of God’s Green World. We care for our plants in the summer so that we and others may eat. God intends for us to share the coming bounty of the harvest. God has given us a world of beauty to make us happy. In return, we have responsibilities to others and to God.  What are the moments or memories in your experience of nature that break through and reveal God’s love?

Chi Yo -- Orders Ending Soon!

Accepting orders until July 12th!

St. Paul's is continuing with the 38-year tradition of selling Chi Yo during the month of July. Chi Yo (rhymes with “I know”) is a delicious Vietnamese spring roll made from scratch in the St. Paul's kitchen. Over 150 volunteers come together to prepare this tasty treat. The need to support the work of Helping Hands is as important as it has ever been. Proceeds from Chi Yo sales also help support scholarships for St. Paul’s musicians to travel and attend music camps and workshops. Our Chi Yo ministry team has been given the green light to prep, roll and fry our delicious Vietnamese Spring Rolls. Everything will be done to maintain personal safety and (as always) professional-grade food safety.

We invite you to pre-order frozen or fresh-cooked Chi Yo (Meat or Veggie): by the dozen = $40, or half dozen = $24.

Please contact the Chi Yo team at stpaulschiyo@gmail.com. Let them know the type and quantity of Chi Yo you want by July 12, 2024. The team will respond with instructions for payment and pickup/delivery the weekend of July 19 - 21.

Thank you for your support!

SPARK 2024: Ukraine!

How you can help this week

St. Paul’s Rhythm and Arts for Kids begins on July 15. There is great enrollment for this annual event.

Here are two ways you can help:

Donate flowers and ribbons. One of the projects during SPARK this year will be creating Ukrainian flower crowns! We are asking for donations of faux flowers and ribbons of all colors and sizes.

Sponsor a child. Could you sponsor a child to attend SPARK this year?? The registration fee for one child is $150. Any donations will go towards providing full and partial scholarships for campers in need!

If you can help with either of these needs, contact Amy Goerger at amy@stpaulsoregon.org.

Joint Pot Luck Sunday

July 21

A joyous joint service with our friends at St. Michael's and All Angels is planned for July 21st! Come to the 10 AM service to share worship and join in the fun afterwards with a potluck in the Gym. Beverages will be provided along with service-ware. Please bring a serving utensil for your dish.

The kitchen will be off limits because of Chi Yo preparation. We will be using the refrigerator in the Parish Hall and the stove, microwave, and refrigerator in the upstairs kitchen. See you on the 21st.

Parish Life

Craft Classes & Craft Faire

Next class is July 27th!

The Parish Life group is hosting a series of “sharing sessions” (aka classes) to get ready for the Craft Faire in December. We are also encouraging you to gather for fun, fellowship, and learning! Many of you have fabulous, creative talents already, and we are looking forward to seeing your beautiful gift items. But if you would like to learn a new craft, these sessions are for you. It’s a two-fold benefit, you learn a new skill and you make high-quality gift items for the Faire. We will gather on the fourth Saturday of every month through November. Each session will last from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Bring your own lunch. Materials will be provided for you to make the craft items. Men, women and children are invited! Come, join the fun! At the July 27 class you will be making Nordic Gnome Christmas Ornaments. Our leader for the session will be Kristi McClain. Please RSVP your attendance to Kristi by July 25 at kristimcclain52@gmail.com. If you have a skill you would like to share with others in the upcoming months contact Robin Ellis at parishlife@stpaulsoregon.org

Community Meditation

Fridays at 12pm

Join Dawn on Fridays in the PlayGround for free guided meditation. Chairs and cushions will be provided and sessions will last 30-40 minutes each week.

These meditations are open to anyone in the community to attend and are non-denominational. The focus is to provide a calming, non-judgmental, and relaxing space with which to learn de-stressing mindfulness techniques to use in everyday life.

Email Dawn with any questions at dawn@stpaulsoregon.org.

All are welcome! Hope to see you there!

ONLINE PRAYER REQUEST FORM: We have an online prayer request form available on our website.

Cover Image, Saving grace to all humankind, Stained glass window in the Washington National Cathedral.  This window brings to mind Paul’s words from his letter to the Ephesians when he says, “[God] destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us.” Note the abundance in Paul’s descriptive words about grace: “glorious’’, “freely bestowed”, “riches”, “lavished”. May we live together in this abundant grace.
