Flat Matt Goes to the Stripers Game!

About 60 people attended the Gwinnett Stripers game on Friday evening, June 23. Great fellowship and a fun time was had by all. Thanks to Clay Olbon and Warren Drury for setting up the fun evening.

Vestry Corner: It’s The People

In the back of the Parish Hall there is a large, framed picture. From afar, it appears simply to be a picture of the front elevation of the Church, Bell Tower and Parish Hall. But get up close and you will see that the picture is not a photograph, painting or drawing, but is composed of a mosaic of family and individual pictures. The title of this piece of art is St. Matthew’s motto: “It’s The People”.

When Debbie and I moved back to the Atlanta area in 2013 we visited a number of Episcopal churches throughout Gwinnett County in order to find our new church home. We had been blessed to have been members of a fantastic parish in a small Florida coastal community and, quite honestly, our checklist of what we were looking for in our new church was based on that enriching and wonderful church life experience.

On our first visit to St. Matthew’s we were warmly greeted at the front door and after the service I remember Samantha Renfro, Greg Andrews and Jack Denton and others seeking us out (were our handprinted name tags a giveaway as being visitors?) and welcoming us and hoping we would return. After a couple more Sunday visits, we were convinced that our prayers had been answered and St. Matt’s was where we were meant to be.

Whether a new member or a longtime parishioner, I pray that each of you also experience that warm embrace of belonging every time you worship or socialize here. I truly understand the difficulty we sometimes feel in reaching out to others we don’t know, but I challenge you to do so. I have found it to be personally rewarding and believe you will also.

It's going to be a scorcher and our plants are thirsty. We need parishioners who can pull out the hoses and adjust sprinklers at least once a week. Please adopt a zone from the map in the hallway on the Building and Grounds bulletin board to keep our campus beautiful and growing through the summer. Please sign up on the bulletin board or speak with Janis Williams or Warren Drury for more information. Thank you!
