NEW - National Lutheran Schools Week - Jan. 22-28
  • National Lutheran Schools Week provides our network of more than 1,800 LCMS preschools, elementary schools and high schools with the public opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among us in Lutheran schools. We thank God for the opportunity to provide excellent academic preparation for the children we serve. We are most grateful for the opportunity to share Jesus’ amazing love with children and their families.
  • National Lutheran Schools Week gives us an opportunity to proclaim these great blessings within the communities we serve. Our schools are amazing incubators for faithful witness of God’s love for us through Christ by teachers and students alike.
  • “Making Disciples for Life” is the theme for the 2023 National Lutheran Schools Week celebration. The associated scripture verse is Matthew 28:18-20 which says:
  • “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'” Matthew 28:18-20
Winterfest - Sunday, January 29, 11:30am-1:30pm - Wixom Campus - St. Matthew’s annual Winterfest will be held on Sunday, January 29 from 11:30-1:30 at the Wixom Campus. This annual event is a great way for St. Matthew and Hearts and Hands children to celebrate this Winter season! We will have a trail scavenger hunt, a bonfire with smores, hot dogs, hot cocoa, crafts, and games. If weather permits, please bring a sled as well for sledding and dress warm as this event will have activities outside.
NEW - Winterfest Chili Cook-Off - Do you make a great chili? We would love to have you participate in the return of the Winterfest Chili Cook-off! The Cook-off will take place after church on Sunday, January 29 at the Wixom Campus. If you wish to enter a chili, please sign-up at the Welcome Center or email anne.bolwerk@st-matthew.org. Signing up ahead of time is not required but it can help us plan for electrical needs. Please have your chili in a crock-pot at the Wixom Campus no later than 10:45 am (before church at 10:00 am is preferred). You do not have to bring a chili to participate; you can be a judge! Tasting and judging will begin shortly after the 10:00 worship service ends. Prizes will be awarded!
NEW - Conference In Person and Online! The Word Works: Building an Ethic of Bible Reading, Saturday, February 4, 2023, Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 E. St. Joe Hwy, Lansing, MI, 48917. Free livestream also available!

Jesus rebuked the Sadducees saying, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God” (Matthew 22:29).

The power of God is in His Word: The Word Works.

Come join us for a day of instruction, conversation, and reflection that will enable you build an ethic of Bible reading.

  • What does it take to develop a habit of daily Bible reading?
  • How long would it take to read the whole Bible in a year? Is that a good idea?
  • What is the point of reading the Old Testament when there is a New Testament?
  • What tools and options are there?
  • What difference does thorough Bible reading make in our lives and our witness?

Friends, God works through His Word—Jesus, the Word made flesh, and the Word, the Bible, given for us to read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest. Can I capture your imagination? What kind of People of Hope would we be if together we gave ourselves over to reading through the entire Bible in 2023?

Let’s spend a day together and think about it!

-President Dave Davis, Michigan District LCMS

SEND HUNGER PACKING!
School Wide Outreach Project With Kids Coalition Food Packing Event, Monday January 23
by Principal Sue Palka

“Whatever you do for the least of these, you’ve done unto Me.” Matthew 25:40

At St. Matthew, one of the main priorities of our school is to nurture and cultivate young disciples to become the hands and feet of Jesus. It is such a joy to watch the Holy Spirit transform these young lives and use them for Kingdom work!

On Monday, January 23rd, we have another opportunity for the Holy Spirit to use every Preschool 4 through Eighth grade student in a similar fashion to help children in need!

It is with great excitement that we can announce the official “Kick off” of our 2023 “Lutheran Schools Celebration Week” will begin by hosting a food packing event with “Kids Coalition Against Hunger”, a non-profit organization that is committed to feed hungry and starving children all around the world. KCAH is committed to feeding hungry and starving children in over 60 countries around the world. They make it extremely easy for volunteers to assemble nutritious food packets that only require boiling water to prepare.

Throughout our world, hunger and malnutrition are significant issues. Did you know that one in eight children around the world suffers from some type of malnutrition? Did you also know that volunteering for one hour to assemble food packets could help feed a hungry child for six months?

Working together with their designated Chapel buddy, each child will work a 45 minute shift to assemble food packets. However, we are in need of approx. ten parents to assist with set up, oversee, and clean up from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 23rd. If you are interested in helping, please click HERE to sign up.

Motivated by this year’s theme of “Love is Everything We Need”, we look forward to send hunger packing by sharing God’s love with those who are in need. Read more HERE.

Bible Adventure - Age 4-5th grade - Sundays
  • 9-9:45 a.m. Wixom Campus - Gathering Place A
  • 10-10:45 a.m. Walled Lake Campus - Room 304

Let's take an adventure through the Bible and lay the groundwork for what it means to be a Christian. What does the Bible say about who God is, how He sees us, where do we each fit into God's family, and how we live like Jesus? Our kids need that firm, foundational, Biblical understanding of core Christian concepts to build their own faith in Jesus. We'll also build on good spiritual habits of faith like prayer and personal time with God. Let's learn it and live it together!
Children's Church - During the Sermon - An opportunity for kids age 3-4th grade to join together and hear a message at their level on Sundays. Kids will head to their room at the beginning of the sermon and return to church when it is done. You get to hear your message and they have theirs!
