August 2017 Financial Update

Offerings for the month of August were $66,865. This was $8,009 below budget for the month and 3.6% below last year's actual offering in August. On a year-to-date basis (YTD), offerings are $14,591 below budget and 11.4% below last year's actual offering over the same time period. Expenses are also below budget by $5,520 on a YTD basis, which is 5.4% less than expenses last year over the same period. The net effect of YTD activity is a drawdown on the General Fund of $23,135.
And some great news! We made our first lower mortgage payment for the month of August and continue to receive generous offerings toward the fulfillment of pledges to our Blessing in Abundance mortgage principal reduction campaign.
Please feel free to contact Jennifer Droubay or Mike McKeller in the Church office with any questions. Thank you!

Housing Needed

Do you have a spare bedroom in your home that could provide short-term housing for a Mom and her son from Peace Lutheran Church?  She is originally from Zimbabwe and is now working at a school in Tacoma.  She is on the hunt for an apartment, but needs a place for a few weeks.  If this is something you can help with, please contact Pastor John Stroeh:   pastorjohn@peacetacoma.org/  253-383-1317.  Thank you!
Kairos Prison Ministry

The mission of Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ.

The 2nd Kairos event at Stafford Creek Corrections Center is scheduled for October 12 - 15 2017. Covering all the activities of the  Kairos  weekend , including all inmates and staff as well as the participants and our volunteers, in prayer is always our first and most important  priority.

Jerry Foss will be available at all three services for the next three Sundays (September 24, October 1 & 8) to answer any questions and encourage people to sign up for 30 minute prayer blocks available throughout the weekend. Members can pray wherever they choose to pray, and handouts will be available to assist people in focusing their prayers.

Bandage Rolling Group

We have a bandage rolling group that meets at the Art Center at Tacoma Lutheran every Wednesday morning from 10 to 11.  If you can spare an hour to help us it would be wonderful.  The bandages are shipped to Global Health Ministries in Minneapolis and from there around the world to Lutheran Hospitals.  They are gratefully received
as these are very needed.  Elaine Rodning

Women of St. Mark's

Mark your calendars!  Our next Craft Night is  Friday, September 29th at 7PM until 9PM. Join us for a fun night making Popcorn Snowmen.  All the supplies will be provided, we need helping hands to assemble the Snowmen.   Please plan on joining us!

We are getting closer to our Annual Bazaar.  In October please stop by the Women of St. Mark's table to sign up for helping during the Bazaar, setting up the Parish Commons or taking part in making Lefse.

We are asking for more bakery items this year.  Everyone wants (and needs) all the wonderful baked goods that we have for sale each year.  Get our your baking pans and recipes and make a batch of cookies or candy.  All are appreciated!

If you have an item in mind that we can easily create please contact Barbara Meyers at  barbstitch@gmail.com.  We are always looking for new items to sell at the Bazaar.  Hope to see you at one of our Craft Nights!

Continue to work on your handmade items for the Bazaar.  All the wonderful items you create make the Bazaar a success.  I encourage all to participate!
