Plans For Giving In 2018-2019

The Stewardship Packet that is being distributed this week contains a Plan for Giving in 2018-2019, and we are asking everyone to please bring that with you to worship this coming  Sunday, March 18. Making a Plan for Giving is an important way to connect our gratitude to God and our trust in God's providence with the daily ministry of the church we love and support. There are extra Stewardship Packets at the Welcome Center in the Narthex. Thanks!

Interfaith Seder Meal at Temple Beth El

We have been invited to an Interfaith Seder Meal at Temple Beth El on
Tuesday, March 27th at 6:00 p.m. This will take the place of the Seder meal that we have served at St. Mark's on Maundy Thursday
for many years. The gathering will include people from several worshipping communities, and the members of Temple Beth El will reserve forty places for those of us who are coming from St. Mark's. There will be a si gn-up sheet in the narthex on  Sunday, March 18, beginning at  9:30 a.m.

New Pantry Work in Progress!

Some of you may already have noticed some construction activity in the hall between the kitchen and  the nursery. We are so excited to be starting a largely in-house conversion of the older, existing  women's bathroom/laundry space into a more functional multiuse pantry with a walk-in refrigerator. The bathroom that is currently men-only will become a family-friendly bathroom with a changing table. The funds for this project have been saved over a number of years. We are thankful for gifts from the Women of St. Mark's, memorial funds given in honor of Doris Larsen, and Council directed funds from a  recent undesignated bequest. In the meantime, please pardon our dust!

Easter Choir

St. Mark's Friends!

It is that wonderful time of year again where ALL OF YOU are invited to be part of the annual Easter Choir. This is our annual opportunity to come together for great community music and fun to present splendid singing on a large scale for Easter Sunday.

If you want to be part of the choir, please check this website we've put together with all of the needed information:

If you like, you can shoot me an email to let me know you are coming, or, simply show up! Don't worry if you missed a rehearsal. I'll smile either way and hand you some music.

Hope to see you soon!

please feel free to contact Jennifer Droubay in the church office.
2017 Choice Dollars expire on March 31, 2018.

Walking to Jerusalem Update - Week 9

Are we there yet?  Almost, with just a few more weeks to walk. You all are amazing! As a community we have traveled 10,794 miles, averaging about 1,100 miles each week. We left Rome, walking to Syracuse, following the mission trips of the Apostle Paul in reverse. From Syracuse we caught a ferry to the island of Malta. On Malta we were fortunate!  In the book of Acts it reads that Paul and those traveling with him to Rome were shipwrecked for three months on Malta. Not so in today's world.  We signed on as crew on a four-masted barque known as the Sea Cloud and sailed for the Port of Piraeus, Greece. There it was time to find rest and relaxation. Piraeus is one of the two largest passenger ports in the world. We stretched our legs walking the docks and ogling the amazing cruise ships and private yachts. For the evening we checked into the Piraeus Port Hotel, just half a mile from city center, allowing time to explore gardens, museums, and ancient ruins. Some opted to take a cooking class allowing them to take home recipes. Others chose to simply enjoy the local bread, olives, moussaka and saganaki (lovely fried cheese drizzled with lemon) and beer or wine.  It is time now to press on to our final destination.

Greater Tacoma Peace Prize Nomination Period

The Greater Tacoma Peace Prize (GTPP) wants to alert people to our current nomination period, which will end on March 31. Anyone - individual, group, organization - may nominate, but the nominee must have a connection to the greater Tacoma/Pierce County area.  You will find a 2018 Nomination Form on our website:   www.tacomapeaceprize.org.

The GTPP has celebrated local peacemakers since 2005. We are the only community peace prize in the US in partnership with several peace entities in Norway, including the Norwegian Nobel Institute. Each year, our laureate receives a trip for two to Norway to attend events surrounding the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize, including, for the last several years, the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony itself, held each year on December 10.

For further information about the GTPP, please visit our website and Facebook page, or contact Janet Ruud or Bill Lincoln, who are GTPP Board members.

Thank You Madi Larson!

Thank you to Madi Larson, who has worked in our nursery a couple times per month from January through March. Madi filled a large hole when  Prudence Crocco, our Permanent Nursery caregiver, had to reduce her hours due to her full time job.
