Faith Journey Begins Soon!
Faith Journey beings Sunday, Oct 15 at 12:15 or Wednesday, Oct 18 at 6pm. Each session includes a meal.
Faith Journey is an open-ended process of spiritual discovery that gives all visitors at St. Mark's an opportunity to explore their diverse stories in light of God's story and to listen for Christ's call.  The series of twelve weekly gatherings begins with a time of getting acquainted, with the stories and questions of participants setting the framework for conversation.
As we progress, there will be time each week to hear God's Word together and to discuss its meaning and relevance for our daily lives.
Finally, we allow time for each person to reflect on his or her own unique calling to live and serve in the way of Christ.
If you are interested in more information, or would like to join a Faith Journey group, please contact Pastor Jan Ruud (after October 1) at jruud@smlutheran.org
Sabbatical Luncheon, Oct 8th, 12:15pm
We will welcome Pr. Ruud back from Sabbatical and hear his reflections on his time of study and rest.  Please call the church office to sign up and reserve your spot.
Chase the Chill
All who enjoy knitting and crocheting are invited to join us again this year to create warm scarves and hats which are donated to programs helping those in our community who deal with homelessness.  If you have questions or would like some yarn, visit Linda and Eleanor at our yarn table in the Narthex.

Bread for the World Offering of Letters
You are invited, and encouraged, to participate in the 2017 Offering of Letters in support of Bread for the World.  Bread for the Word advocates with the U.S. Congress in support of programs that address issues of hunger and food insecurity both  in the United States and globally.  Congress is in the process of considering the budget for next year.  There is a chance that food safety-net programs that have existed for many years, such as SNAP, WIC, global nutrition, and refundable tax credits, are on the chopping block.  We need our congressional representatives to accurately represent our point of view.  Writing letters to our congressional delegation will help.

New Community Group "Third Quarter"
Christian friends in the "third quarter" of life are welcome to join a new community group at St. Mark's. Lori Clark and Steve and Martha Ward invite age 50ish -75ish to create a supportive community to share hope, laughter, and love through active events.

At the inaugural event in early September, we agreed to meet the second Thursdays of each month:

Thursday October 12 at 6:00, Mini Golf at Tower Lanes, 6323 6th Ave; food and drink available during/after golf.
Thursday November 9 at 6:00, Pot Luck and Game Night
Thursday December 14 at 6:00, Christmas Pot Luck and Tradition Share
Schedule coming for 2018 based on the many wonderful ideas received

During October, please stop by the Women of St. Mark's table to sign up to help during the Bazaar. We have many different jobs and need your participation if only for an hour or more. Some of the needs are setting up the Parish Commons, taking part in making Lefse or contributing baked goods and/or items to sell.

This will be our 35th Annual St. Mark's Annual Bazaar.  We begin by boiling and ricing potatoes for Lefse on Wednesday, November 1st, followed by Lefse making on Thursday, November 2nd.  On Friday, November 3rd, we begin setting up the Parish Commons and pricing items for sale.  Lots of hands makes the work go quick!  We will provide a light lunch on Friday for all who lend a hand!  Mark your Calendars!  Please sign up to help during the Bazaar on Saturday, November 4th.

We are asking for more bakery items this year.  Everyone wants (and needs) all the wonderful baked goods that we have for sale each year.  Get out your baking pans and recipes and make a batch of cookies or candy or ?.  All are appreciated!  We have clear plastic containers for you to use.

Your items need to be dropped off at Church by Friday, November 3rd.  Please clearly mark your items with BAZAAR.  Please indicate the sale price of your items.  We will have tags available for pricing.

Continue to work on your handmade items for the Bazaar.  All the wonderful items you create make the Bazaar a success.  I encourage all to participate!
