All Congregation Meeting this Sunday, June 4

Please join us for the semi-annual meeting of St. Mark's Lutheran Church by The Narrows this Sunday, June 4 at 12:15pm in the Parish Commons! Lunch will be served, starting at noon and childcare will be provided. Our meeting will get started with lively marimba music and it will include many opportunities to celebrate and claim our common mission. During our time together, we will reflect on our annual theme of One Great Song, celebrate the success of our recent Capital Appeal, learn about recent monetary bequests that we have received, hear a report from our church treasurer, adopt a mission budget for the next fiscal year, elect people to serve in key positions on leadership boards at St. Mark's, celebrate the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking for our sanctuary, learn about grants awarded from our St. Mark's Endowment Fund, and hear about Pastor Ruud's upcoming sabbatical. In the course of the meeting, we will also enjoy sparkling cider and a special dessert. Our time together will conclude by 2pm.

Please Remember to Bring Your Learn, Serve, Grow Response Form the Church This Sunday!

In the month of May, we have been handing out our most recent booklet describing all the opportunities to Learn, Serve, and Grow at St. Mark's. If you haven't received one yet, you can click here to read it on our St. Mark's website. We are asking every member of our church family to prayerfully consider how you might use your God-given time and talent in the months ahead and then share that with us by returning the Learn, Serve, Grow Response Form which you received with your booklet. We will be gathering these forms during all three worship services this Sunday, June 4. If you need extra forms, just click here and download one for every member of your household. If you can't be with us this Sunday, please mail your form to us or drop it off at the church office on any weekday. We promise to follow up with all of you, and to make personal contact with everyone who indicates a desire to serve in a new way.

Habitat For Humanity Update!

A very big Thank You to everyone who is supporting Habitat's Building on Faith project this year. Thanks to the generosity of many people who made a monetary donation, we have raised enough money to be an official sponsor of the house! And, thanks also to the 45 people who have signed up to work at the house.

The start of construction has been delayed a little, but St. Mark's volunteers now have three possible dates to help build the house for Ma Moore and her four young children -- July 22, August 19, and September 9. If you haven't already signed up but would like to do so, it's not too late to join the fun! Please contact Deborah Herforth at  deborahherforth@yahoo.comor 206-372-1433.

Care of Creation Summer Hikes

The Care of Creation committee is sponsoring four hikes this summer--one per month alternating between Fridays and Saturdays. The heavy precipitation (snow) this year will likely preclude getting above 5,000 feet until late July or early August. We can adjust the destinations as we get closer and know the conditions better.  The dates and tentative destinations are listed below.

Saturday, June 24:  Rattlesnake Ledge, Packwood Lake, or Rampart Ridge

Friday, July 21:   Summit Lake

Saturday, August 5: Chinook Pass

Friday, September 8: Sunrise (Rainier) or Hurricane Ridge (Olympics)

We will meet at the church at 8 a.m. on the appointed days and form car pools.  Hikers should have water, sun cream, sun glasses, lunch, first aide, camera, extra clothing, good hiking shoes, and money to help defray the costs of gas for drivers.  We will not go if it is raining.

One Great Song: The Book of Psalms

As we explore this year's congregational theme, "One Great Song", we turn our attention to Israel's songbook.  The Psalms are a collection of 150 songs and poems that have been sung and recited for more than 3,000 years. They are beloved by both Jews and Christians and have shaped the imagination and strengthened the faith of people.  Together we will drink from this deep well as we spend 5 weeks studying the Book of Psalms.  Note-There will be two opportunities to be part of this study:  Wednesdays at 6:15pm  or Sundays at 11:00am (beginning May 7th).  Questions?  Contact Pastor Shjerven
