THE GREAT 50 DAYS OF EASTER
The great fifty days of Easter is the period after Easter until the day of Pentecost (means "fifty"). During Eastertide as it is sometimes called, we mark the victory and triumph by Christ over sin and death of every kind. It has been a long-standing tradition in the Western Church to recognize this victory by omitting from the Sunday liturgy the general confession of sin. Obviously, we don't stop sinning during this period but this is the way the transformation of sin to righteousness is marked liturgically. One is encouraged to deal with personal sin that occurs during this time by private confession. For more grievous sins the rite for "The Reconciliation of a Penitent" is available for confession and absolution from a priest. Please let Fr. Carey know if you need this rite of the Church.

New and experienced volunteers are needed to help prepare meals, serve meals, act as evening hosts, and overnight hosts. Please let us know if you are interested in helping that week. Watch for the insert in the Sunday service leaflet. There will be a one hour volunteers meeting on Thursday evening, May 18, starting at 5.45 p.m.; all new and experienced volunteers are encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nancy Crow, Jeannie Fry, John Rhodes, or Tom Simmons.
HOMELESS SHELTERS MINISTRY: Thanks to so many of you that have continued to help with this ministry. As we move into warmer temperatures, remember that BOTTLE WATER is also appreciated and our shelters tell us that PAPER TOWELS and TOILET PAPER are items they can never seem to get enough of! We make our monthly deliveries of your donated items to area shelters on the last Tuesday of each month. If you have questions or would like to help with deliveries for this ministry, feel free to contact M'Liss and George Collins, Mary Newton, Tommie Williams, Don Wood, Betty Seymour, Sheryl Stewart or Mary Ann Hodge.
