News & Events

EARTH DAY PARISH WORK DAY has been RESCHEDULED for next Sunday, April 30 after the 10 a.m. service until 3 p.m. All are welcome to participate and dress down for the worship service. Bring your lunch and help GROW the St. James community with your friendship and time. Thank you to everyone who has said they will help and even to those who acknowledge the importance of the church property but will be away this week. Your acknowledgement is HUGELY supportive.

We are aware that everyone is not able to do the physical work, but please come, bring a chair, a water bottle, your name tag, and fellowship with other parishioners. There are seeds to be planted, memories to be shared! Remember that you can recycle and exchange your unused garden-related implements. Share a plant or grab a new one for your home or garden. Leftovers will go to the Thrift Shop.

For those who can provide some labor, bring gloves, a shovel if you have one, a 5 gallon bucket for mulch or weeds, knee pads, a hat and sunscreen! Grandkids are also welcome to join story time, the scavenger hunts, work the pretzel stand, and make birdseed cones to take home.

Come and make this a fun morning and enjoy our little piece of God's Creation! For more info, contact Mary Kay Krokowski at 828-301-5772.

Worship & Adult Formation

The Adult Formation series, Our Greatest Gift: Stewardship and Care of Creation continues through Sunday, April 30 at 9 a.m. in the Trinity Room. Join us as we explore what it means to faithfully care for God's first and greatest gift—creation itself. In the midst of a hyper-politicized environment, how do we as Christians reclaim God's first intent for humankind—to be stewards of all the earth and its creatures.

Morning Prayer on Mondays will continue at 8:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Start your week off with a simple, spoken morning prayer service Mondays in the Sanctuary area of the Church. No sermon, no music, no livestream. Just prayer in the rhythm of the Daily Office.

Join us for our midweek healing Holy Eucharist at noon every Wednesday in the Chapel. This service lasts no longer than 45 minutes so anyone can attend, either on a lunch break or in the midst of running errands.

Gluten free wafers are available during communion for those with celiac disease or medical issues. You may request this gluten free option at communion from the chalice bearer.

Ministry & Fellowship

The St. James Prayer Shawl knitters and crocheters have been busy! Our next meeting to work on our projects will be April 25. Come find us in the St. James Room from 1-3 p.m., where we gather to talk and work. If you’d like to come early, bring your bagged lunch and join us for fellowship at 12:30. We welcome donations of yarn (or money to purchase yarn). If your yarn stash is getting out of control, think of us! For more info, email Laurie Parkerson.

The next Yoga Classes will be Wednesday, April 26. We are offering two classes: the first class, Focused 45, will start at 9:30 a.m., with participants arriving and getting settled at 9:20. Focused 45 is very active, meaning poses will often go from standing to the floor and back again. Participants for Chair Yoga will arrive at 10:20 to set up for a 10:30 class start time. Chair yoga offers the support of the chair for all participants and the use of the chair as a prop for those who want to stand for certain poses. There is no going to the floor. If you are uncertain about which class is right for you, please come to Chair Yoga. Let the instructor, Dianne Hunter, know about your questions. Sign up here or contact Teri Smith at 828-694-6938.

Save the date for the St. James Summer Crawfish Boil on Saturday, June 10 from 4-7 p.m.! Let's fellowship together with a crawfish boil, music, games and fun for the whole family. Cost is $15 per person or $45 per family household. Stay tuned for more details and registration information.

Justice & Mercy

Save the date for the 2023 Hunger Walk on Saturday, September 23. We are looking for parishioners who are business owners that would like to sponsor the event. Sponsorship levels as follows: Supporters: $250- $499, Patrons: $500-$999, Angels: $1,000 - $2,999. Sponsors are listed on the Walk t-shirt, on the Henderson County Hunger Coalition Website, and thanked in local newspapers following the Walk. Email Alex Kealy or Bonnie Bryan with questions.

THE OUTREACH COMMISSION THANKS YOU! Thank you to all who donated items or made financial contributions for migrant workers in Henderson County. One hundred backpacks were filled with bandannas, caps, toiletries and protein bars. We also provided long sleeve t-shirts and work pants. Representatives of the Henderson County Public Schools Migrant Education Program and Blue Ridge Health Center joined us while we filled the backpacks, and they expressed their appreciation for our support. We are grateful for your generosity and support of these workers who play a vital role in our community.

The Storehouse Needs Drivers! The Storehouse is seeking volunteer drivers to help with the National Mail Carriers Food Drive to be held Saturday, May 13. Drivers work in teams of two and follow behind carriers or go through neighborhoods and collect the food for Henderson County. The Storehouse is a beneficiary of the drive, getting one third of the total collection. If you would like to help with this effort, please email Lynn Staggs.

Children & Family Ministry

EYC Youth Group will meet Sunday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.! We'll bring the darts. You bring everything else. We'll play some light-hearted games together and have dinner. Thanks to Diane and Christoph who will provide dinner.

Tired of Emails? Youth and Parents Can Stay Connected with St. James via text. Join our Remind account by texting @2fhfhb2 to 81010. We will post upcoming events, photos, and reminders here and all will go directly to your phone.

Acolyte and Senior Recognition on Sunday, Sunday, May 14 at 10 a.m. Join us as we give thanks for the ministry of our Acolytes and celebrate any graduating seniors. If you have a high school, college, or master's level graduate this spring, please email the church office ASAP with all the details.

Can You Do Dinner for Our Youth?

One way to continue to support Christoph and his ministry is by being involved! We need folks who will provide dinner for about 10-12 folks whenever we have EYC. Please stay and eat with our students. They are awesome. Teenagers eat most anything and right now we have no one with food allergies. Pizza, tacos, sandwiches, and a vegetarian option for Christoph! Contact David+ to sign up. Dates are: Sunday, May 7, Sunday, June 4, Wednesday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 28, all at 5:30 p.m.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Sunday School is offered every Sunday at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. in the Atrium by the Trinity Room for ages 2 through 5th grade. Families are encouraged to attend Adult Formation at 9 a.m. Children will return during the Peace in church.

Baptismal Sundays coming up include Pentecost Day, May 28, and the Bishop's Visitation on June 11. If you or a family member desires to be baptized, please let David+ know.
