The Thomas Merton Prayer

Group for Men

“The Thomas Merton Prayer Group for Men” is a new program here at St. Dominic. We are blessed to have a new parishioner, Bob Toth, who is the former director of the National Thomas Merton Center. Bob shared with Fr. Tom a program “Bridges to Contemplative Living” from his work at the center which he thought was an excellent fit for the men of St. Dominic. Bob will co-lead this program with

Fr. Tom at the parish, beginning on Tuesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. in the large meeting room. The group will meet once a month from 7-8:15 p.m. The sessions will include a short reading from the works of Thomas Merton, personal reflection, and small group discussion. Thomas Merton is considered one of the foremost spiritual writers of the last century and his works have been published in multiple languages throughout the world. This will be a great opportunity to meet other men in the parish and to grow in your faith.

Project Serve Junior Service Camp

“Project Serve Junior,” a service camp for rising 7th and 8th graders takes place August 14-17, 2023. Join us to learn about serving in our community, Catholic Social Teaching, the Works of Mercy, and how the Gospel invites us to see the Risen Christ in those on the margins. This popular experience has a maximum capacity of 32 campers and we expect it to be full soon! Early-bird registration fee of $90 through May 31st. Contact Jodie Bowers, JBowers@stdominicchurch.net to learn more or click this link to register: https://stdominicym.wufoo.com/forms/2023-project-serve-junior-service-camp/

The St. Dominic Racial Equity Task Force is inviting you to participate in forward looking conversation built on a TED talk video. The Learning and Action Committee will host the event and build the dialogue around the theme “Who is my neighbor?” The goal of the discussions is to create a welcoming environment where meaningful exchanges and connections are made and faith-based actions can begin. Participants are asked to click on a link to view a TED talk or YouTube video that will inspire reflective conversation. Guided questions are included so participants have time for private contemplation before the event. Please join us for our last session of TED talk discussions on Sunday, May 28th at 9:45 in the large meeting room.

Registration Deadline for Medical Mission

Through the generosity of our parish, we are able to support the Santo Domingo Clinic in El Salvador. St. Dominic provides funding for the salaries of a Salvadoran doctor and clinic staff. In addition, our parish generously provides prescription medicines without cost to members of the community. Lastly, our parish sends two annual medical delegations to El Salvador to support community health. With the rising cost of health care and challenges associated with the pandemic, our support is vital.

St. Dominic’s next medical mission is scheduled for November 4-11, 2023. Practitioners with backgrounds in primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and nursing are invited to register. All specialties are welcome. Today, May 15th is the registration deadline. Click this link to register: https://stdominicym.wufoo.com/forms/november-411-2023-medical-mission-trip/

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

By Katie Panzica

In this week’s second reading it says, “Rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.”

In today’s world, suffering can be found all around us. It seems that every time I turn on the news, I feel a need to turn it off as the news can feel so overwhelmingly awful. As we begin another week, I pray we can all remember the teachings of Jesus and his suffering and know that God‘s glory and the gift of eternal life is with us.
