GOOD NEWS BEARS

Week of May 20, Vol 1, Issue 38

Dear St. David Families,

As we (rapidly) approach the end of the 2023-24 school year, we have quite the lineup of events and celebrations to share with you! This week is packed with activities that promise to bring unity, joy, and a sense of accomplishment in our community.

Spirit Week is here, and it's time to showcase our school pride! Each day offers a unique theme, giving everyone a chance to express their creativity and enthusiasm. These activities are designed to foster a sense of camraderie and fun among students and staff. We encourage everyone to participate and make this Spirit Week a memorable one!

This Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost, a significant day in the Christian calendar that marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Pentecost is a time of reflection, renewal, and celebration of the gifts of the Spirit. It reminds us of the power of unity and the importance of coming together as a community.

We are filled with gratitude for the support and involvement of our community. Your enthusiasm and commitment make our school a wonderful place to learn and grow. Let's continue to support each other and make these upcoming events truly special.

Yours in faith,

Ms. Medrano

Are you ready to lace up your sneakers and join us for an exhilarating event? Our annual Fun Run is just around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited to see our students, families, and staff come together for a day of fitness, fun, and fundraising!

Mark your calendars for May 24th as we gear up for a morning filled with laughter and energy. By participating in the Fun Run, youll be supporting St. David's efforts in our continued efforts to update our school's facilities and academic programs.

Grab your water bottles, rally your friends and family, and let's make this year's Fun Run the best one yet! Emails from the Fun Run company should have gone to the email shared with the school at the beginning of the year. If you have not yet received it, please contact our school office. It has been reported that the emails went into the spam folder if you have a yahoo email.

CAMPUS SECURITY & FOOD DELIVERY

There has been an increase of deliveries being made to students and the delivery employees are bypassing the office. Students are not allowed to meet the delivery order on the sidewalk. All deliveries must be sent to the office. People delivering lunches should not go to the yard and try to find the students. Anyone who is not a student or an employee of St. David School is required to wear a Visitor's Pass. The office will call students to retrieve their lunches.

Delivery employees have not been screened for VIRTUS/Safe Environment, TB test, or fingerprint clearance as required by the Diocese to have interactions with our students. To prioritize safety, we kindly request packing lunches and snacks in the morning with the student. Please limit the use of 3rd party delivery. Let's work together to maintain security for our St. David students.

Just a reminder that the area in front of the South Yard gate along Garvin Avenue is meant for drop-off and pick-up only. If you need to park your vehicle, please park by the Main Office, along Sonoma Street, or by Kringle Field.

VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS 👍🏽

Are you looking to fulfill some of your hours during the school day? If you have a day off here and there during the work week, you are welcome to sign-up for one (or more) of our recess or lunch duties! There are 2 slots for each "shift" so you can grab a buddy to volunteer with you or get double hours and recruit someone! Thank you to the parents who have volunteered throughout the year and for the parents who suggested doing a sign-up genius!

Reminder: Families are required to volunteer at the school for a minimum of 30 hours during the school year. Service hours are valued at $25 per hour; therefore, the hours that are unearned by the end of the school year will be billed at that rate. Service hours must be earned by adult family members or legal guardians. Each volunteer must complete Virtus training (www.Virtus.org), which is good for 3 years before a renewal is necessary. Also, any volunteer working directly with the children must have a certificate on file for TB clearance and must be cleared through Livescan. Generally, service hours will be earned beginning the first day of school, and are to be completed by June 1st of the school year.

May Yard Duty Sign-Up

If you have more time outside of school hours, Mr. Brandon Wilkens, Class of 2006, is looking for help in the upkeep of our school. The button leads you to sign up to help with one of our current and summer projects.

FOOTBALL CAMP- SAINT MARY'S COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

Saint Mary's College High School will be hosting a football camp on Saturday, June 1st, by former NFL player, Lorenzo Alexander '01. The camp will start at 9am and is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders while spots are available. Click on the link to register.

BIO-MED SUMMER CAMP INVITATION at SALESIAN COLLEGE PREPARATORY

My name is Kenneth (Kenny) Farr, and I serve as our Principal at Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond. We have created an incredible opportunity for our students throughout our Catholic Junior High students throughout the Diocese of Oakland. All are welcome to this invitation to apply to join us on campus at Salesian this June to our first annual Bio-Med Summer Camp. We do ask that you do so sooner than later, as students from a handful of Diocesan schools have been invited, and we only have 20 spaces available. We have a wonderful Bio-Medical STEM program in partnership with Project Lead the Way that we offer high achieving students upon entrance, and this summer camp may serve as a bridge to support our Bio-Medical Program if students end up committing to Salesian for their High School journey.

As a Catholic College Preparatory High School that serves a similar mission as our Catholic schools that you invest time, treasure, and talent in for your child, we value what your child has accomplished. We are confident that they would enjoy the experience, challenge, and fun that our summer camp would provide.

If you and your child accept this invitation, then we request that you to (1) complete our electronic application and (2) make a payment over the phone to our finance office (510) 234-4433. Again we do ask that you do so sooner than later, as students from a handful of Diocesan schools have been invited, and we only have 20 spaces to provide.

*This program is for 6th-8th graders*
