Altar Flower Dedications
Many of you notice and compliment the beautiful floral creations that enhance our worship space on Sundays. But did you know that the work is done by volunteers? A faithful group of twelve parishioners dedicates hours each month to the selection, conditioning, and arrangement of the flowers. St. Bede’s Flower Guild is solely dependent financially on your generous contributions and dedications each week. Thanks to all who have supported this ministry in the past and it is hoped that many more of you will consider honoring special people or events in your lives with a donation. A suggested amount is $60, but any offering is appreciated.
To make a dedication, fill out a Flowers Dedication envelope found at the Connection Center, note your check for flowers, and leave the envelope in the office or place it in the collection plate. Or you may email our Parish Administrator, Laura Pittman, at lpittman@stbedes.org with your information and follow up with your offering later.
Again, thank you for your continued support,
The Flower Guild

POPCORN THEOLOGY
RESCHEDULED
Saturday, August 26 at 5:30pm in the Parish Hall
Pizza and Salad provided
Meal will also include dairy free, gluten free &
vegetarian options
Suggested donation $10 per person
Join us to share a simple meal that will include dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian options, after which we will watch this 2022, Spirituality and Practice Award-winning film, rated PG, running less than 2 hours. A small contribution is requested for the meal.
This a heartwarming, uplifting comedy-drama of how an ordinary woman becomes an extraordinary inspiration to all around her by daring to follow her dreams.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris
PG, 1 hour and 50 minutes
Starring Lesley Manville as Mrs. Harris,
Isabelle Huppert, Jason Isaacs, and Rose Williams
Mrs. Harris is a cleaning woman in London in the 1950’s who falls in love with a haute couture dress, created by Christian Dior, she sees in one of the homes she cleans regularly. Ada Harris (played by Lesley Manville) decides she wants to own a Dior dress so we see her work very hard and deprive herself of bus rides to work and heat in her flat to save the large sum of money she will need to purchase a dress. She travels to Paris and encounters those who think someone like her is not worthy of wearing a Dior dress and some who think it will be good for the House of Dior to open its doors to ordinary
women. With her irrepressible spirit and determination, Mrs. Harris brings healing and transformation to the people of the House of Dior. The film also stars Jason Isaacs, Isabelle Huppert, Lucas Bravo, Ellen Thomas and Rose Williams.

ESOL Volunteer Opportunities
Many of you know that our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program has been going strong since January of 2013. We will be starting a new "year" on August 22nd with some returning students and new ones as well. We have been getting regular calls and emails about classes. Our students are desperate to speak English!
ESOL classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and Wednesdays from 10:30 until Noon. If you have interest in learning more or participating in this amazing ministry, please talk to Claudia Fedarko (703) 819-4127 or Connie Coralli (404) 218-6668 or any of the amazing ESOL teaching team. You can also come to the ESOL teacher training on Saturday, August 12th from 9:30 to Noon at the church.

Nursery Volunteers for ESOL
We staff a nursery for the young children of our English students and would love to have volunteers from church to play with and read to the children. Could you volunteer either Tuesday or Thursday night from 7-8:30 pm? Classes begin on August 22 and continue throughout the school year with a month-long break around Christmas. There are usually only a few children there and the work is very rewarding. You'll make a difference in their and their parents' lives.
Contact Claudia Fedarko (hadfed@gmail.com) or
Connie Coralli conniecoralli@gmail.com) to volunteer.
Thank you.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!

On behalf of the Outreach Committee, many, many thanks to all of the generous people of St. Bede’s who made our back to school supplies ingathering a huge success! On July 21, 36 stuffed back packs were distributed to students who participated in the summer camp program. The remaining supplies that were collected after July 21 will be distributed to students participating in the CCC after school program. The staff and families of students were immensely appreciative. Special thanks to Melody Murray for coordinating this event! | |

McLemore's Musings
We hope you are enjoying a new feature in St. Bede's E-News - McLemore's Musings. Many of you have met the Rev'd Bill McLemore who has joined the St. Bede's community. Bill has been a priest for over 57 years and has served parishes all over the Episcopal Church. Bill is the former archivist of the Diocese of Atlanta and authored the 100th anniversary book on the history of the Diocese. Bill is also an artist and has used his artistic skills and sense of humor for many years to draw hundreds of cartoon that comically comment on life in the Episcopal Church. Each week we will share a cartoon here that Bill selects from his collection. Enjoy!

Friend in Christ,
As violence escalates in Ukraine, over one million people have already fled the country — and the borders are flooded with many more people desperate to leave.
Almost all of them are women and children who have had to seek safety on their own, leaving their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind.
As this crisis continues to evolve, we are working with Anglican agencies and our other partners to provide humanitarian assistance, and urgently ask for your help.
Your emergency gift today will support our immediate response, providing cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needs as this crisis unfolds.
Our faith networks are currently on the ground in the border areas of Poland, Hungary and Romania, and we will continue to coordinate with them in order to help those who have been displaced. Specifically, our partner ACT Alliance is helping families on the Hungarian border, and our Anglican partners are mobilizing both an immediate and long-term response in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
Yours faithfully,
Robert W. Radtke
