Celebrating the Ministry
of Muriel Diguette
as Parish Administrator
This Sunday, August 27, we will celebrate the ministry of Muriel Diguette as our Parish Administrator for the past four years. There will be a reception after 10 am worship and we invite you to bring notes of thanksgiving for Muriel and for all of the gifts that she has brought to this role - particularly during the challenging pandemic years.
It is also our tradition to collect a "purse" or love offering for departing staff members. You may contribute to Muriel's purse by designating a gift via check as "Muriel's Purse" or you can give through Realm through the link below and then selecting "Muriel's Purse" from the fund list.
Although Muriel is retiring from her job at St. Bede's, she continues to be an active member and you will find her co-leading Sacred Ground Circle, the Healing our Racism Book Group, and other things that the Spirit leads her to now that she has more time on her hands. Thank you Muriel and we look forward to much more continued ministry together with you!

This a heartwarming, uplifting comedy-drama of how an ordinary woman becomes an extraordinary inspiration to all around her by daring to follow her dreams.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris
PG, 1 hour and 50 minutes
Starring Lesley Manville as Mrs. Harris,
Isabelle Huppert, Jason Isaacs, and Rose Williams
Mrs. Harris is a cleaning woman in London in the 1950’s who falls in love with a haute couture dress, created by Christian Dior, she sees in one of the homes she cleans regularly. Ada Harris (played by Lesley Manville) decides she wants to own a Dior dress so we see her work very hard and deprive herself of bus rides to work and heat in her flat to save the large sum of money she will need to purchase a dress. She travels to Paris and encounters those who think someone like her is not worthy of wearing a Dior dress and some who think it will be good for the House of Dior to open its doors to ordinary
women. With her irrepressible spirit and determination, Mrs. Harris brings healing and transformation to the people of the House of Dior. The film also stars Jason Isaacs, Isabelle Huppert, Lucas Bravo, Ellen Thomas and Rose Williams.

Join us in Education for Ministry (EfM) this year!
EfM is a program of theological education and spiritual formation in a small community committed to attentive listening and nonviolent communication. The hope in EfM is to provide space for each participant to wonder about and to grow in her/his/their understanding of and relationship with God, as well as to offer resources to support each person in discerning and blessing their gifts to share in the community. Although the program is designed as a four-year process, a person enrolls for just one year at a time as one's life circumstances allow. All the EfM materials were updated several years ago with new books explored each year. If you are a graduate of the program, you are welcomed and encouraged to consider joining the group to have the gift and adventure of working through the new materials.
EfM begins Monday, September 18th at 7:15 - 9:30 p.m., meeting in person at St. Bede's. The year concludes on Monday, May 20th, the Monday before Memorial Day.
The mentors for the group are The Rev. Lynnsay A. Buehler and Dr. Jo Marie Lyons. Each mentor has over 30 years experience in guiding an EfM group.
Click on the flyer below for more information about the EfM group at St. Bede's. This year the tuition will be $325.00. If you'd like to register, please speak with Lynnsay and she will be glad to answer your questions.

Altar Flower Dedications
Many of you notice and compliment the beautiful floral creations that enhance our worship space on Sundays. But did you know that the work is done by volunteers? A faithful group of twelve parishioners dedicates hours each month to the selection, conditioning, and arrangement of the flowers. St. Bede’s Flower Guild is solely dependent financially on your generous contributions and dedications each week. Thanks to all who have supported this ministry in the past and it is hoped that many more of you will consider honoring special people or events in your lives with a donation. A suggested amount is $60, but any offering is appreciated.
To make a dedication, fill out a Flowers Dedication envelope found at the Connection Center, note your check for flowers, and leave the envelope in the office or place it in the collection plate. Or you may email our Parish Administrator, Laura Pittman, at lpittman@stbedes.org with your information and follow up with your offering later.
Again, thank you for your continued support,
The Flower Guild

Bible, Books, and Banter
Bible, Books, and Banter is a group for Christian formation and fellowship. Meetings are twice a month on first and third Tuesday mornings. We share our stories as we try to discern God’s presence in our lives. We discuss our current reading – which may be fiction or non-fiction, contemporary or classic. Our first two meetings after the summer break are scheduled for August 15 and September 5. We will begin a new book: My Neighbor’s Faith: Stories of Interreligious Encounter, Growth, and Transformation, edited by Jennifer Howe Peace, Or N. Rose, and Gregory Mobley. We would be happy to welcome new participants.
Please see Martha West or Molly Graves if you are interested in joining us.

St Bede’s Outreach Update
A large part of St. Bede's annual Outreach budget goes to Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD). Prior to 2000, this organization was called the Presiding Bishop’s Fund. Since 2015, it has worked in 21 countries reaching 250,000 people annually. In recent years it has been involved in responding to large scale disasters. To this end, we at St Bede’s have given ERD funds to aid those devastated by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in 2022.
This year we have assisted those countries that are aiding refugees from Ukraine. Currently we are sending ERD $1,000 to aid families that have lost loved ones, homes, and their belongings to the fires in Maui.
You can read more about Episcopal Relief and Development and make a donation below.
Of course, we are continuing to support our local communities through the Atlanta Food Bank, NetWorks, and other organizations.

McLemore's Musings
We hope you are enjoying a new feature in St. Bede's E-News - McLemore's Musings. Many of you have met the Rev'd Bill McLemore who has joined the St. Bede's community. Bill has been a priest for over 57 years and has served parishes all over the Episcopal Church. Bill is the former archivist of the Diocese of Atlanta and authored the 100th anniversary book on the history of the Diocese. Bill is also an artist and has used his artistic skills and sense of humor for many years to draw hundreds of cartoon that comically comment on life in the Episcopal Church. Each week we will share a cartoon here that Bill selects from his collection. Enjoy!

Friend in Christ,
As violence escalates in Ukraine, over one million people have already fled the country — and the borders are flooded with many more people desperate to leave.
Almost all of them are women and children who have had to seek safety on their own, leaving their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind.
As this crisis continues to evolve, we are working with Anglican agencies and our other partners to provide humanitarian assistance, and urgently ask for your help.
Your emergency gift today will support our immediate response, providing cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needs as this crisis unfolds.
Our faith networks are currently on the ground in the border areas of Poland, Hungary and Romania, and we will continue to coordinate with them in order to help those who have been displaced. Specifically, our partner ACT Alliance is helping families on the Hungarian border, and our Anglican partners are mobilizing both an immediate and long-term response in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
Yours faithfully,
Robert W. Radtke
