MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR

<----- Browse this notebook (available in Walker Hall or online) to read about the stories we would like to purchase for our keiki. Sunday School starts August 6! Please consider sponsoring a story by signing up here.

GODLY PLAY FUNDRAISER

We would love your support as we re-start & re-boot our Sunday School program for our keiki. Here are some ways to consider helping:

1) Join us! If you have keiki or grandchildren between the ages of 3-10, bring them! Our next introduction of Godly Play is during our Family Fun Night on Friday July 28 from 6:00-7:00 pm. Sunday School starts for all age groups on Sunday August 6 at 9:00 am. Transportation help may be available.

2) Sponsor a Story! Godly Play is a Montessori-based program and uses storytelling as a key component of instruction. The stories are told using beautifully crafted materials that allow children to interact with the stories in a playful way. We are grateful to the Acacio family and Katie Fendel for donating our first two stories: Noah's Ark & The Creation.

Vicar Jennifer has created a Godly Play sponsorship notebook (see photo above) that is available in Walker Hall. Please take a look to read about each story and get a sense of the materials we need to purchase. The notebook is also available online.

If you feel called to sponsor a story or part of a story, please do! You can sponsor a story by signing your name (and the amount you want to contribute) in the notebook, or you can visit our online sponsor sheet. We are excited to get this program started to serve our keiki (and have fun doing it!)

MAKE KAHILI FOR THE CHURCH

Members of St. Augustine's are invited to gather with feather workers in Walker Hall TOMORROW! Saturday, July 15 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Please know that no experience is needed — just a willing heart, helping hands, and a sharp pair of scissors! This is a wonderful invitation to learn this ancient Hawaiian craft from skilled kupuna and an opportunity participate in bringing to fruition the project envisioned by both Mila and Bishop Diana. If you are interested in participating, please contact Vicar Jennifer.

We'll be providing food for this special event (we were served a delicious lunch in Waimea). if you can bring a dish to share, please let Kathy W. or Vicar Jennifer know. Mahalo!

Mahalo to Kirk for leading us and helping us make joyful sounds! All are welcome!

Here are some additional ways to get involved:

  • Start planting and let Dave & Kim know what you are planting.
  • What would you like to bake or cookLet Patsy know.
  • Start cleaning your house for thrift shop, white elephant, boutique items. We're not ready for them since we have no storage, but giving you a heads up. Let Kathy M. know if you have items.

  • Please consider purchasing an EYE tshirt to wear at the Bazaar! See Kathy Matsuda if you're interested.

St. Augustine's Annual Bazaar will take place on September 23!

If you have information to share, please let us know! This is a space to help us stay in touch in a variety of ways, such as news, offers of assistance, or garden bounty (fruits, veggies) you would like to share. Please email Vicar Jennifer or Kathy Webb: VicarJennifer@staugustineskohala.com or admin@staugustineskohala.com

SIMPLE CLEANING TIP

Be green when you clean. Use vinegar, castile soap, lemon juice and baking soda as climate-friendly alternatives for most household cleaning jobs. Dr. Bronner's is a popular affordable castille soap available in a variety of scents (included unscented!) and can be found at Long's and KTA.

Also consider buying refillable cleaning products to avoid unnecessary plastic packaging. And instead of paper towels, use fabric or microfiber cloths.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

NEW! COMMUNITY GROUP TO BEGIN MEETING

for listening and sharing while connecting with 'aina

WHAT ---> The new group is called "OPEN CIRCLE"

WHEN ---> Thursday, July 20 at 5:00 pm at Keokea Park

Months ago, a few of us gathered to brainstorm about forming a group that would invite community members to gather. The idea was to open conversations about the places in our lives where spirituality and real life meet.

From there, we formed the idea of a group called OPEN CIRCLE, where we can welcome all to cultivate open awareness of our connections with one another and nature.

The group is meant to include people who long for spiritual connection but for whom "church" just doesn't work. OPEN CIRCLE welcomes all, especially those who find spiritual connection in nature and those who are "spiritual but not religious."

Jennifer Masada and other North Kohala community members will facilitate conversations to be open, safe, and affirming, without divisive topics like political parties. OPEN CIRCLE is not church or group therapy or overly woo-woo. It is a time set aside to practice quiet contemplation together and to share and listen. We will hold space for human connection as part of 'aina while reflecting on the beauty of living as well as common difficulties we encounter.

Each meeting will last about 45 minutes and will include brief sharing and listening (you won't be required to speak!), quiet time, and sharing some food. Please join us!

Know of a community event we can post here? Please email Vicar Jennifer or Kathy Webb: VicarJennifer@staugustineskohala.com or admin@staugustineskohala.com
