MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR

Dear St. Augustine's 'ohana,

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry shared a message of care of compassion to the Diocese of Hawai'i, and especially to those affected by the deadly Maui fires that destroyed Lāhainā and a community that included Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.

We are grateful to the Presiding Bishop for taking the time to share this message, as he faces his own serious health issues. He was only recently released from the hospital on August 23, and is scheduled for surgery soon. Continue to keep our Presiding Bishop in your prayers, for his full recovery.

You can also view the statewide vigil in support of Maui, which has been going on all day today, including vigils at dawn, noon, and sunset. The vigils are centered on emotional and spiritual healing that is rooted in Native Hawaiian practices with leaders from diverse faiths. Watch on YouTube here or on KITV here.

Blessings,

Vicar Jennifer

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO

  • George, Kathy & Kaya Webb for cleaning the church and providing flowers this week.
  • Laura LaGassa for serving as lay reader last Sunday.
  • St. Augustine's members who pray for others each week.
  • The many members of St. Augustine's and the community who help sort donations and operate the Thrift Shop.

SHARING OUR TIME & TALENTS

What brings you joy? Perhaps you like to garden, cook, or organize things. Maybe you enjoy carpentry, reading to keiki, or sending greeting cards. Please consider sharing your talents at St. Augustine's!

COMPLETE YOUR GIVING FORM

Remember that all gifts of time and talent make a big difference in the life of our church and community. Please fill out the Time and Talents form for 2024. As you look through our list of ministry opportunities, you might be surprised at what sparks your interest.

As we plan for the coming year, your updated information will help so much! Forms are available in Walker Hall and on our website.

THE JOY OF GIVING

Every St. Augustine's member who turns in a Time & Talents Form will be entered into a drawing for a $25 donation, which can be gifted to a member of their 'ohana, a friend in need, Maui relief efforts, or another non-profit of their choice. ST. AUGUSTINE'S NEWS

THE JOY OF SINGING!

If you sing in church, you're invited to join us every Tuesday at 5:00 pm! We go over the hymns for the following two weeks. No experience is necessary; just bring your voice, your love of music, and a willing heart to sing. Please join us even if you don't want to join the choir but just like to sing our hymns. Mahalo to Kirk for leading us and helping us make joyful sounds! All are welcome!

Please note these planning details:

  • If you plan to make food for us to sell, please bring it to Walker Hall by 8:15 am the morning of the Bazaar. Also, please let Patsy Ching or Kathy Matsuda know if you will bring your food already packed in individual containers or if you need St. Augustine’s to provide containers (specify the type & quantity of containers).
  • Donation letters are available in Walker Hall if you have close contacts with a business or person you would like to present to.  Please let Kathy Matsuda know who you are presenting donation letters to.
  • We are also looking for additional volunteers. Please see Kathy M. for more information, and mahalo to all who have volunteered so far.
  • Please consider purchasing an EYE t-shirt to wear at the Bazaar! See Kathy Matsuda if you're interested.

If you have information to share, please let us know! This is a space to help us stay in touch in a variety of ways, such as news, offers of assistance, or garden bounty (fruits, veggies) you would like to share. Please email Vicar Jennifer or Kathy Webb: VicarJennifer@staugustineskohala.com or admin@staugustineskohala.com
