A Message From The Principal

Dear St. Anthony Families, 

O God of all beginnings and endings, We praise and thank you for the gift of this school year. It has been a time filled with grace and blessings, With challenges and opportunities, joys and sorrows. The days have passed quickly, O Lord. The weeks, the months, the seasons, the holidays and holy days, The exams, vacations, breaks, and assemblies, All have come forth from your hand. While we trust that your purposes have always been at work each day, Sometimes it has seemed difficult to understand and appreciate Just what you have been up to in our school. Give us the rest and refreshment we need this summer. Let our efforts of this past year bear fruit. Bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion, And bless us, according to your will, With the fulfillment of our summer hopes and dreams. Watch over us in the weeks of rest ahead, And guide each day as you have done this past year. Help us return to school with a new spirit and a new energy. May we continue to grow In age, wisdom, knowledge and grace. All the days of our lives.

As we bid farewell to another academic year, it's crucial to emphasize the significance of engaging in summer reading and homework. While summer break provides an opportunity for relaxation and fun, maintaining a connection to academic learning is essential for your child's growth and success. Students came home this week with their required summer reading packets and a summer math challenge. All of our required summer reading books can be checked out from the Indianapolis Public Library, purchased on Amazon, or we have a few school copies to lend out. All summer reading packets and math challenge packets are due on the 1st day of school, August 12th, 2024.  

Summer reading is more than just a way to pass the time; it has numerous benefits for students of all ages. Here are some reasons why summer reading matters:Improving Vocabulary and Language Skills, Enhancing Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills, Building Imagination and Creativity, and Strengthening Writing Abilities.

To ensure your child embraces summer reading, here are a few tips to consider:

Create a Reading Routine: Set aside a specific time each day dedicated to reading. Whether it's in the morning, afternoon, or evening, consistency is key. Visit the Local Library: Explore your local library's summer reading programs and encourage your child to participate. Read Together: Share the joy of reading by establishing a family reading time. Take turns reading aloud or engage in discussions about the books they are reading.

While we want summer to be a time for relaxation, a small amount of structured learning can prevent the loss of academic skills over the break. Summer homework helps students retain knowledge and skills: Completing summer homework assignments helps students reinforce the knowledge and skills they acquired during the school year, preventing the summer slide.

Summer homework can also introduce students to upcoming topics or provide additional practice to solidify their understanding of key concepts.

To make summer homework more manageable and enjoyable, consider the following tips:

1. Set Realistic Goals: Break down assignments into smaller tasks and create a schedule to ensure steady progress while still allowing time for leisure activities.
2. Create a Productive Environment: Designate a quiet and well-lit space specifically for completing homework. Minimize distractions and provide necessary materials.
3. Reward Achievements: Encourage your child by recognizing their efforts and accomplishments. Small rewards or incentives can help maintain motivation. Students completing all 10 iReady lessons will receive 5 free dress passes for next school year. 
4. Seek Help When Needed: If your child is struggling with a particular assignment, encourage them to reach out to the school or use online resources to seek clarification or assistance.

Most importantly, stay connected and engaged throughout the summer break! Our school website will remain updated with valuable resources, reading lists, and summer assignments. Follow the school facebook page and stop by to see us! The school office will be open Monday through Thursday 9am-1pm throughout the summer. 

Remember to do your summer homework, go to church on Sunday, and don’t forget - we are St. Anthony Spartans. Everyone have a great summer break!

Mientras nos despedimos de otro año académico, es crucial enfatizar la importancia de participar en la lectura y la tarea de verano. Si bien las vacaciones de verano brindan la oportunidad de relajarse y divertirse, mantener una conexión con el aprendizaje académico es esencial para el crecimiento y el éxito de su hijo. Los estudiantes regresaron a casa esta semana con sus paquetes de lectura de verano requeridos y un desafío de matemáticas de verano. Todos nuestros libros de lectura de verano requeridos se pueden sacar de la Biblioteca Pública de Indianápolis, comprar en Amazon, o tenemos algunas copias escolares para prestar.
