Celebrate Sunday Mass at St. Alphonsus!

Hello St. Alphonsus,

In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus commands us to love one another.

Jesus reminds his disciples that knowledge is to be expressed in love. Those who know Jesus will love one another. Knowledge leads to love, which leads to action. We are reminded that Jesus taught that love is the sign of a true disciple and, thus, a true Christian. Even more, a true disciple shows a particular kind of love, sacrificial love.

May is a special month, the month that the Church dedicates to the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of God and our spiritual mother. All are welcome to join us this Monday, May 6 at 8:30 AM for the annual May Crowning Mass. Our Alphonsus Academy 2nd graders will lead the devotion.

May Crowning is a Catholic devotion recognizing Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. As May is considered the season of the beginning of new life, we participate in Mary’s crowning to recognize her role in Our Lord lifting us out of the long, cold days of winter and firmly planting our hearts in the warm and promising soil of spring.

Please pray for our parish children who are making their First Communion this weekend!

Daily prayer keeps you in good relationship with the LORD, and yourself.

Invite your friends/loved ones to Mass! Sunday Mass schedule is at 9 AM, 11 AM, and 5 PM in English. Mass in Spanish is at 12:30 PM.

Sacrament Series with Bishop Bartosic- Tuesday, May 14 at 7 PM

“Be Sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit”. Accompanied by an anointing of the Christian with Chrism, these words are the focal point of the Catholic Rite of Confirmation through which we receive the titular sacrament. While the Holy Spirit is present in all seven of the sacraments, He is particularly emphasized in Confirmation. Through God’s grace this sacrament bestows on us the Gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of God; all of which empower us to live our lives as Christians and spread the Gospel to where it is needed.

We are excited to continue our series on the Sacraments of the Catholic Church with this second lecture and are honored to be joined by Bishop Bartosic, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Leaving behind the acting life, Bishop Bartosic was ordained a priest in 1994 with much of his priestly ministry spent serving Chicago’s Latino community and in 2018 he was ordained to the episcopate. In his role as auxiliary bishop, Bishop Bartosic oversees Vicariate II, within which St. Alphonsus is located, and serves as the director of Kolbe House, the archdiocesan prison ministry. We hope you are able to join us for this next entry in our Sacraments Series! This event will be located in Festival Hall. Doors open at 7 PM with the talk beginning at 7:30. Light snacks will be provided.

Our monthly Praise and Adoration will be on Friday, May 31 at 7:30 PM.

Weekly Philosophy Forum meetings continue every Tuesday at 7 PM.
