Celebrate Sunday Mass at

St. Alphonsus!

Hello St. Alphonsus,

In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus drives out the moneychangers from the Temple and says that he will destroy the temple and raise it up again. Throughout John’s Gospel, the language of signs is distinctive. Jesus’ miracles are called signs, and the people look to these signs for proof of his authority. The ultimate sign will be Jesus’ passion, death, and Resurrection.

During Lent we reflect upon the meaning of this sign for us and for our world. We might take this opportunity to consider the quality of our prayer and worship. In our prayers we seek to deepen our relationship with Christ. In worship with our community, we gather to experience anew the passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus and its significance in our lives. Christ promises to be present with us when we gather for prayer.

Daily prayer keeps you in good relationship with the LORD, and yourself.

Lent 2024

“Lent is a new beginning, a path leading to the certain goal of Easter, Christ’s victory over death. This season urgently calls us to conversion. Christians are asked to return to God ‘with all their hearts’ (Joel 2:12), to refuse to settle for mediocrity and grow in friendship with the Lord.” – Pope Francis.

The Archdiocese of Chicago is delighted to provide the faithful with a wide variety of opportunities to take Pope Francis’ words to heart and begin a Lenten mission of deepening relationships with those around them and with Jesus Christ. Access more resources here!

Stations of the Cross

AACA Presenting Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 8

During the Season of Lent our school students have been learning about the Stations of the Cross, that it's the crux of the most important three days in human history. And they are excited to share with the parish community what they've learned in two different presentations. First, the 7th graders will be performing a tableau-style presentation of the Stations with reflections and prayers for the school community and parents on Friday March 8th at 1:45 PM.

In the second service at 5:30 PM. – immediately prior to the Fish Fry – the students will lead the parish in meditating on the Stations using reflections that the students themselves have composed. All parishioners are invited to attend the student-led prayer service, and then head downstairs to Festival Hall for the Fish Fry!

The Sorrowful Mysteries Lenten Study - The Carrying of the Cross

Thursday Mornings, NOW through Mar. 21, 9:30 AM-11:00 AM, in the Rectory.

We get to walk with Christ to Calvary. They paraded Our Lord through the Via Dolorosa as a public spectacle. Our Lord takes our sin and shame upon His shoulders and He carries it up Calvary’s hill. How could the Son of Man fall under the weight of the Cross? How is it that the All-Powerful One needs help from Simon? Let us enter into these sacred mysteries together! Join us this week and together let us generously respond to the call of the King.

Email Emily Ember for more info.

How to Pray the Rosary

The Touching the Divine Bible study focuses on qualities of Jesus revealed through the Gospel of John. This study draws us into a deeper loving relationship with Jesus as we reflect on His life and personality.

Saint John referred to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved,” and as we study, John will teach is how much Jesus loves us and how His love is the true satisfaction of our souls.
