A Note from Scott and Marsha
October 24, 2019
This weather has everyone in the absolute best mood ever. While I know everyone isn't super happy about winter coming, let's just all take a moment and pause with gratitude for the humidity fading off into the distance. Pause. Smile. Breathe. Sigh.

I thought it was time for an updated Squishy picture. Squishy has cut two teeth and has now figured out how to roll from his tummy to his back. He is smiling, chattering and kicking his chunky thighs like crazy. He is still getting up in the night which makes for fun mornings with Doug, our designer. I love him rolling in, particularly when he has his work shirt on inside out, which makes me laugh. But he isn't the only one. Amanda comes in telling me stories of Ayla and Isaiah wanting to get in the bathroom at the same time. Ayla is 9 and pretty much over sharing bathroom space with anyone which makes me chuckle. Viridian drags Navid out of bed in the morning for school when he decides he isn't ready to get up. Although Shannon's on the upper end with middle/high school girls, they can be equally daunting at times. We all have good times sharing life. Scott and I being on the other end of this is crazy. We have truly forgotten what it is like to be in the middle of babies, elementary and middle school. Kudos to everyone navigating this. We are legit exhausted for you. But I bet you guys are rocking it! Even though our kids are adults, we still facepalm at least once a month or maybe weekly, but who's counting.

Aside from all that, we are counting pumpkins and rocking on our Instagram feed. All the fall fun pictures are rolling in and everyone has such pretty kids and families!

It isn't too late to decorate and it certainly isn't too late to participate in our final fall giveaway. Follow along  @fgsdurham on Instagram. This week, we are looking for the cutest picture of your pets with the best fall background! That can be either here at For Garden's Sake with the pumpkins, the truck, etc. or you can even get the perfect picture on your decorated porch with all things orange and white from FGS! We can't wait to see it! We even got Chip groomed for the occasion and he is adorable in his candy corn scarf. Yeh, I dress my dog. I'm that dog mom.
JUDY'S HOUSEPLANT PICK
Tillandsia, also known as 'Air Plants' are both unique and beautiful. They are easy to care for and you can place them just about anywhere. While tillandsia do need more than air to survive, they do not require soil. We have a wide variety of sizes and some have even been enhanced with color. If you want to know more about caring for tillandsia, read our post about them.
JAPANESE MAPLES
The 'Pixie' Japanese Maple is the feature tree this week. It is a dwarf variety that only grows 6-7 feet tall and wide which is perfect for small yards. The foliage is bright red in spring, dark red in summer and scarlet in fall. If you are looking for a larger variety of Japanese maples, we also have the popular 'Bloodgood', 'Tamukeyama', 'Coral Bark' and more!
NANDINA BLUSH PINK
Nandinas are beautiful small shrubs that will add color to your landscape all year long. The 'Blush Pink' variety is quite compact--only growing to 2 x 2 feet. The new growth is pink, and then it boasts a bright pink and red color in the winter. Its sister shrub, the 'Firepower' Nandina has a brilliant bright red color in winter. Both are deer-resistant and easy to care for.
