Dear Friend,
Happy Spring!
We’ve been enjoying some lovely weather as Spring is now in full bloom. We hope you had a nice Easter, and for those of you who experienced Spring Break, trusting everyone remained healthy and happy.
We’re excited about things opening up, and we’re all navigating through as we adjust to new ways of gathering together, and also moving forward and going about life in a safe and responsible way. Spring seems to be the perfect time of the year for just this.
The month of April includes National Garlic Day, so take a look below and we hope you’ll try this month’s recipe inspired by the flavor-packed ingredient. As well, April 22 is Earth Day, and we are so glad this is recognized each year to increase awareness of environmental issues, and for our community to come together to care for nature and our land, which is integral to our health and well-being.
And, here are a few of our favorite Spring quotes:
Spring is the time of plans and projects. – Leo Tolstoy
Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again. – Gustav Mahler
Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer. - Anita Krizzan
Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party!' – Robin Williams
Wishing you all a beautiful Spring season!
Best,
Brian

NEW
CALIFORNIA STATE CATEGORY
"PRIVATE EVENTS"
At long last, the state of California has recognized and created a sector or category of activity that applies most closely to catering and events!
As of yesterday, April 15, this new Private Events category and guidelines take effect. This category includes meetings, receptions and conferences, as well as live events and performances. Thus, many San Francisco bay area event venues can now take steps to open for larger groups of guests/attendees.
Give us a call for more information on specific guest counts and expanded regulations. Or, send us an email and we'll provide you a pdf of the revised Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
Of course, we’ll continue to maintain safety protocols and recommendations for food and event service; including our staff wearing masks and gloves, and keeping spacing and distancing in mind for setup planning.

We are proud to announce a recent step taken in our event services. We now manage the event management service for San Mateo Garden Center!

The main indoor space Redwood Hall, which can accommodate up to 115 persons, a smaller meeting/reception space Rose Room (max capacity 38 persons), and the lovely outdoor Patio/Gazebo area, which can host up to 65 persons. The outdoor “woodsy” area has many trees, walking paths, and a pond with two bubbling water fountains.
Amenities include tables and chairs, with setup/breakdown, and a catering kitchen for final warming, plating and staging of food.

NATIONAL GARLIC DAY
Each year on April 19th, National Garlic Day celebrates a vegetable also known as the stinking rose. The fragrant and potent root has been seasoning dishes for thousands of years.
This stinking rose is a member of the lily family, which also includes onions, leeks, and shallots. While garlic originated in Asia over 7,000 years ago, it is used in a variety of cuisines.
Garlic is quite versatile, too. It is also used for medicinal purposes. The mighty bulb is considered an herbal remedy for colds and may reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. Modern science has also proven garlic’s antibiotic properties.
Over 300 varieties of garlic are grown around the world. However, Gilroy, California claims to be the Garlic Capital of the World. Will Rogers was once quoted as saying, “Gilroy is the only place in America where you can marinate a steak just by hanging it out on a clothesline.”

RECIPE
"GARLIC LEMON BUTTER SALMON"
Here's the perfect way to celebrate National Garlic Day. This is a simple, foil-wrapped, no mess, salmon recipe with a delicious garlic lemon butter sauce.
Ingredients:
1 lb salmon fillet
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons butter, melted
3 dashes cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Sprigs of rosemary
Sliced lemon for garnishing
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400F.
In a small bowl, mix the garlic, lemon juice, honey, butter, cayenne pepper and salt together. Whisk to combine well. Rinse the salmon with cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
Transfer the salmon to a big sheet of aluminum foil and drizzle the garlic lemon butter mixture on the salmon. Coat well. Top with parsley and sprigs of rosemary. Wrap the salmon up tightly and bake for 20 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through.
Unwrap the foil, garnish with sliced lemon and serve immediately. Enjoy!
