Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Friends of CBN,
I hope you are all enjoying the summer and staying cool! With this extreme heat, it is especially important for the
elderly to stay cool and hydrated. All four of CBN’s Older Adult Centers (OACs) are open as designated cooling centers for older adults. We provide air-conditioning, cold water, congregant meals, engaging programs and a caring community that gathers together in camaraderie while staying cool.
As you will see in the newsletter below, CBN has been busy with exciting program updates that enable us to expand and complement our programs and services to better serve older adults in our shared community. I’m pleased to share that:
- Effective July 1st, CBN has resumed our Case Management Program which assists homebound elderly on the upper east side with wraparound supports and services to complement aging in place safely at home with dignity and good quality of life for approximately 1,300 clients.
- Effect August 1st, CBN will resume our meal delivery to homebound elderly on the Upper East Side for 100 clients. As you may recall, our Carter Burden Luncheon Club OAC was fully renovated recently, and it included a state-of-the-art commissary kitchen so that we can cater high-quality meals for all of our clients. The resumption of our meal delivery AKA “meals- on- heels” program is a beloved volunteer activity, and we are thrilled to offer this opportunity again to our dedicated volunteers.
In light of these program updates and the constraints of the City’s budget which is flat and unable to keep pace with inflation and rising costs, I’m so appreciative of CBN’s supporters like you who make all this work possible. Now more than ever, it truly “takes a village” to look after vulnerable older adults.
Most Sincerely,
| |

William J. Dionne
Executive Director

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, staff from our our Community Elder Mistreatment and Abuse Prevention Program (CEMAPP) partnered with Ridgewood Savings Bank to educate members at the Carter Burden Luncheon Club on the dangers of Financial Exploitation, and shared best banking practices to keep safe from scammers. Tiffany Vasquez, a representative from Ridgewood Savings Bank, joined CBN to walk our members through common scams and provide safety tips. Attendees even received CBN-branded RFID sleeves, a tool which provides credit cards with protection from unapproved electronic charges.

And thanks to a generous donation of eclipse glasses from Northwell Health Eye Institute, our members were able to view the eclipse safely - and with style!
