From a satellite region of the famed St.- Emilion in Bordeaux. Like most wines of the Right Bank, this wine is composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Here is what you are in for: concentrated notes of currant and blackberry that mingle with savory elements of dried thyme and pencil lead. Proper acidity and a tug of tannins come in with a touch of vanilla, indicating the year this spent aging in oak. While there is a lot going on, everything is in complete balance. Drink now, or cellar it and be rewarded. Win-win!

Ichishima Seishu Futsuu-shu

The Ichishima line is a new addition to our constantly expanding sake cooler. Located in the Niigata prefecture on the Western side of Japan, Ichishima Brewery has produced premium level sake since opening its doors in 1790. But it was Seishu Futsuu, Ichishima's unclassified sake, that really caught my attention. The word Futsuu translates to "normal sake," basically the grape wine world's equivalent to "table wine." Taste this, and I believe you will agree, this is anything but normal! Beginning with the compelling aromatics which include flowers, pear, dried banana, spun sugar, and white peach, it shows an amazing balance between delicate sweetness, and bright clean acidity. Thanks to that balance, you can have fun pairing food with this!
