Nearby (12 miles) Brattleboro offers both outdoor recreation and cultural attractions. Many towns throughout the state are all-year destinations, meaning tourists will find a host of activities to partake in, no matter what time of the year they travel to Vermont. From natural paradises and historic sites to bear factories and various wineries, these small towns have something for everyone.
The only city with this name in the world, Brattleboro provides a nice mixture of urban and rural atmosphere. Since the town is surrounded by steep hills, most of the houses and buildings are atop the hillsides and bunched together, which brings the cosmopolitan and charming topography together.
The Abenaki people who lived and traveled through Brattleboro called this place "Wantastiquet," which means "lost river" or "river of the lonely way" since they believed the town turned its back on its people.

Here’s a shout out to Dennis Hobart Giles and his wonderful book “To Know him Is: A True Story” A thoughtful, visceral coming of age story. His story resonated with me as a gay man and human being. Beautifully written, I was captivated by the story and once I started reading I found it hard to put down. Dave and I highly recommend this story of joy and loss set in 1960’s New England.

Nestled in the trees down by the brook that feeds the swimming pond, the Brook Cottage has perhaps the most magical setting at Frog Meadow. Tucked under a canopy of pines and oaks and surrounded by ferns, the Brook Cottage is full of windows with a peaceful view out of every one!

The Brook Cottage has a queen bed and you’ll be lulled to sleep by the sound of gently running water and crickets.
Although the Brook Cottage is heated and air conditioned, there is no plumbing… when nature calls use a nearby tree or come to the Main House, a short two-minute walk away. There you’ll have full access to the Main House common areas as well as a full bath and shower for dedicated use of the Brook Cottage and the Honey Bee Cottage.

All bed linens at Frog Meadow are high thread count Egyptian cotton. To ensure a good night’s sleep, the Brook Cottage is furnished with a comfy pillow-top mattress.
For your convenience there is a campus-wide Mesh Wi-Fi network that provides high-speed internet access throughout the property including the Main House, Carriage House, the Brook Cottage, the Honey Bee Cottage, the gardens, orchard, meadow and the swimming pond areas at Frog Meadow. Join us for three or more consecutive weekdays during the weeks of May 13th and May 20th and lend a hand in the gardens for six hours each day, helping us with basic garden, landscaping, and other assorted garden tasks. In return you’ll earn a stipend worth the value of your lodging stay (less a $25* per-night

Discover Rock River: Our Local Gay Beach! | |
Just upstream from the confluence of the Rock and West Rivers, and only four miles from Frog Meadow off Route 30, there are a series of deep, clear water swimming holes. Known as “Indian Love Call” by the locals there is a long tradition of nude bathing on the Rock River as there is in Vermont in general.
As you hike further up the Rock River you will notice that the first swimming hole is deep with a sandy beach and a rope swing. This is the “family” swimming hole where the clothing stays on. The further upstream you go the more likely you are to see nude bathers; the next couple of beaches up the trail are mixed, gay and straight, and nude.
As you continue further up the Rock River it becomes increasingly gay until you

reach your final destination, about a 30-minute hike from the road and discover the “official” gay area. While the wooded areas are very cruisy and do have their share of activities, the scene by the water is very social and quite friendly (e.g. no “attitude”).
Men often bring preparations with them for a summer BBQ and, generally speaking, all are welcome, especially if you have things to share. There is a feeling of being in another time and place when you’re there!

"Ride With Pride"
Road Bike Ride
Join us for a 40-mile road ride through the beautiful Connecticut River Valley! Known by locals as the "Tri-State Ride" because it goes through the states of Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
The ride is moderately hilly. Half way through the ride we will stop in Northfield, MA at an ice cream stand for lunch and an ice cream cone!
Participants should be experienced cyclists and have road bikes, not hybrids or mountain bikes. We will be riding at a moderate pace of 14-15 mph.

"This review is long overdue as I have now become a regular guest at Frog Meadow.
I will never forget the first time I arrived at the property and was instantly awestruck by the setting and view, I think I was even speechless, if only momentarily! Once you arrive you have at your disposal acres and acres of some of the most beautiful terrain Vermont can provide. It also has a sense of history as the property has been a farm for hundreds of years, including original stonework and landscaping near the house that is beautiful.
What I find most appealing is that this is not only a stylish bed and breakfast but this is Dave and Scott’s home that they are welcoming you into. I prefer that any day to something more formal or cookie cutter.
I have also had the opportunity to attend one of their workshops. I came away with a sense of community and having a new group of friends as a result. This brings up a something that I think makes Frog Meadow unique, the culture you become a part of as a guest. Every visit I come away with having met interesting, if not fascinating men that engage me and sometimes challenge how I think and look at the world.
I will be heading back to Frog Meadow in the early Spring and as always, know it will be something special!”
