As we near the end of the spring semester, I want to acknowledge the accomplishments of our staff. I would like to congratulate the Business Affairs Superior Accomplishment Award winners as well as the two university-wide winners, Daisy Gainey and Tyler Engel from Facilities Services.
This month, AVP Renton has awarded our first quarterly Elite Gator to Steven Bell, GIS Administrator from BATS. She also surprised 5 newsletter readers that participated and guessed correctly in the Masked Gator section of the newsletter. Make sure to participate. You may get surprised with a prize!
As we look ahead, commencement ceremonies begin this week. Across all Business Affairs' departments, we have over 70 employees graduating with their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Congratulations to all of you on your hard work and academic growth.
Our continued support of the university’s larger vision is progressing steadily. We have unveiled a new road opening from Archer Road to Ballpark Way. This new road is known as the SW Gateway from the Transportation Masterplan. With this exciting news, we look towards continuing the progress of construction which will enhance UF’s navigation, beauty and research capabilities.
As we prepare for the summer months, don’t forget about our resources related to Hurricane planning. Hurricane season begins in June. Visit Emergency Management for tips on hurricane safety planning.
I wish everyone a joyful and safe summer!
Thank you for reading and staying up to date across Business Affairs.
Go Gators,
Curtis A. Reynolds

Traveling the World with the Musson Family
Renee Musson, Associate Director for the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, loves exploring and going on adventures, especially with her family.
Her two children, Kacey and Kyle, were raised in Gainesville, Florida. Kacey studied and graduated from UF and Kyle is an alum of Santa Fe College. Both grew up going to Gator athletic events, local shows and entertainment. Kacey loves the theater, so much that she created a successful career stemming from her passion. She lives in London and is the Theater Manager for the West End, which Renee mentioned is the equivalent to New York City’s Broadway. Her son Kyle is no stranger to adventure and travel being part of the Musson family. He is an Entertainment Lighting and Video Director on the sea. He travels constantly as his line of work is on cruise ships.
As you can see, the Musson family loves to travel, experience different cultures and entertainment, and it all started in Gainesville. As Renee is now an empty nester, she has traveled more than ever (pre-covid). She hopes to get back out exploring once gates begin to open again post-covid.
One of her favorite trips was with her son on an adventure in Alaska. She went fishing and saw a flock of bald eagles. “It was amazing and so surreal. When you think of Alaska you think cold, but I think of seeing all of those birds and it being daylight at midnight. It was a really beautiful and a must see if you have not been to Alaska.”
She also had the pleasure of visiting Belize with her daughter. They even swam with sharks!
Renee has traveled to over 23 countries and 36 states. Her love of exploring, nature, animals and family have taken her all over the world.

February Masked Gator Update: You guessed who owns Teddy and Cali and 81% guessed right! Chief Linda Stump-Kurnick owns these adorable pups.
Chief Linda Stump-Kurnick has two Norwich Terriers, Teddy and Cali Brown Dogs. She fell in love with the Norwich Terrier breed when she got her first one in 2012. His name was Tuffy Brown Dog. Chief Stump and Tuffy were always together and would volunteer at UF Health Shands and the Children’s Cancer unit. In 2018, Tuffy passed away tragically, which left a huge void in her heart. She remembers telling her wife “I may need to spend a lot of money on therapy or I need another Norwich.”
Chief Stump decided that she would tell her heartbreak story to the Norwich terrier community and they came through with a couple of puppies for her. One of the breeders recommended she do something else with her new pups instead of visiting the hospital, as those memories may be hard to revisit. He told her that the pups were good representatives of the breed standard and recommended that she show the dogs. This led to many hours of training and commitment, but also a newfound love of her current dogs, Teddy and Cali. On June 21st, Chief will be showing both of her dogs at the Westminster Dog Show. The bond Chief has with her dogs is undeniable. Let’s wish Chief and her dogs the best of luck at the show in June.

Food pantries like Hitchcock’s Field and Fork Pantry are an essential aspect of every community. They help provide safe and wholesome food to those in need and improve food access and security for many people. Canteen, UF’s snack vending provider, has been helping to support Hitchcock Field and Fork Pantry by donating generous amounts of snacks for over a year.
Matthew Mueller (UF’s Director of Food and Beverage Services), Mike Chambers (UF’s Program Assistant at Business Services), and Ernie Orobitg (Canteen’s District Manager for UF) all collaborated to kickstart Canteen’s donations to Field and Fork Pantry.
