Spring Lake Township and Village voters will consider two proposals on the Aug. 6 ballot to fund construction of new bicycle and walking paths and critical maintenance of existing trails in our community. Our website contains valuable information about these two proposals. Read on to learn more.
Millage renewal
Your ballot will show the Bicycle Path Renewal Millage Proposition, a 0.49-mill renewal which funds the maintenance of 22 miles of bicycle and walking paths in Spring Lake Township. If renewed by voters, the millage will cover the cost of planning and maintaining the pathways for 10 years.
To date, this millage has allowed the Township to offer high quality bicycle paths that are smooth and safe for all types of uses, including rollerblading, biking, running and walking. If the millage is renewed by voters, Spring Lake Township would continue the maintenance work laid out in our Non-Motorized Pathway Asset Management Plan, which evaluated the conditions, ages and features of all Township paths.
New millage
The Bicycle Path Millage Proposition is a separate item on this year’s ballot and is a new proposal at 0.50 mills for 10 years. This millage would provide funding for the planning and construction of additional biking and walking paths, expanding connectivity to other trail systems. A map of proposed additional paths is available on our website.
Our Township bicycle paths provide a great place for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors, be active and spend time together. As a local government, we are committed to fiscal responsibility and being a good steward of taxpayer dollars.
