Spring Lake Township's Annual Meeting

On March 25, Spring Lake Township held its annual meeting, marking the beginning of the next fiscal year, and a monthly Board of Trustees meeting.

2023-2024 Fiscal Year

The past fiscal year was an exciting one for Spring Lake, and our board made several important decisions based on our mission to keep our community an amazing place to live, work, learn and recreate.

During 2023-24 fiscal year, the Board of Trustees voted to hire three additional full-time firefighters and an additional deputy sheriff. The Board also approved the purchase of firefighting equipment and vehicles to help the fire department keep the community safe.

The board voted to improve the bike path along Krueger Street between 152nd Avenue and M104, following the township’s commitment to providing ample recreational opportunities for residents. Upgrades to Water Tower Park were also approved. The Township zoning ordinance was updated to include multifamily dwelling requirements and multifamily housing in the township’s Neighborhood Commercial Zone.

The Board approved multiple Industrial Facilities Exemption requests in the last fiscal year, which created 104 new jobs in the township.

Firefighter of the Year

During the annual meeting, we also announced the Spring Lake Township Firefighter of the Year. Jeff Olson has been working with the Spring Lake Fire Department since 2002 and is certified in firefighter II, Hazmat operations, company officer II and as an emergency medical technician. Olson was recognized by his peers for his dedication, professionalism, patience and respect, and his commitment to mentoring new firefighters and department activities.

2024-2025 fiscal year

We are actively working on multiple areas of opportunity, and we are eager to engage with our community in new ways as we make important decisions for the future.

Key items planned for the next fiscal year include taking on several bike path projects, conducting a wage survey to help ensure township employee wages are aligned with the market rate and allocating American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Monthly Board of Trustees Meeting

Following the annual meeting, the Board of Trustees met for its regular meeting, during which it approved the budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. More information about the budget is available on the township website.

Recordings of the annual meeting and board meeting are available on the township’s Facebook page.
