Letter from the President,

Carol Stamm, MD

Happy Spring! Welcome to the second quarter of the year. Since renewal is the theme of the season, it is time to reveal more details about the upcoming Joy and Happiness Workshop.

JOY AND HAPPINESS

The first Joy and Happiness workshop will be held soon (TBA) in conjunction with the Denver Medical Society Foundation (DMSF) at the Colorado Medical Society building.

Interest has been high, so we opened the first session to all DMS and DMSF Members. Register before the spots are filled! Since space is limited for this workshop. If you cannot attend after registering, please notify us in advance so we can open space for another member (vcastleberry@denvermedsociety.org).

Dr. Anjali Durandhur, a former colleague, has led multi-disciplinary teams in popular writing prompts and guided meditations. We are thrilled to offer this special workshop designed especially for the Denver Medical Society members.

Since one of DMS’s important core values is to expand community health awareness, we will continue to offer pocket-sized Immunize Colorado vaccine cards which can be clipped behind your ID badge. Take one for a colleague.

VACCINATION

Boosting vaccination rates in the Denver Metro Area is increasingly important. The Denver Department of Health and Environment ...

Welcome aboard the DMS Board to

Victoria Seligman, MD

Give a warm welcome to

Victoria Seligman, MD

Dr Victoria Seligman is our newest DMS Board member. Dr Seligman is an internist and rheumatologist in Denver. She has a passion for improving access to care for vulnerable populations. She pursued an MPH in global health at Harvard to further this passion.

She established a longstanding internal medicine volunteer program for Health Volunteers Overseas in Cambodia to build clinical capacity. Recently, she has practiced clinical rheumatology for an underserved native population in Alaska. She is a former Cornell Ford Foundation scholar and UCSF humanitarian fellow awardee.

Dr Seligman is very excited to join the DMS Board and to add her unique perspective to innovative program ideas.

On a personal note, Dr Seligman is a good east coast skier, an award winning photographer, and an avid traveler. She enjoys exploring Colorado and beyond with family and friends. She continues to groom her inner cowgirl as a new horseback rider so is finally able to put her vintage cowboy boot collection to use.

From the Desk of the DMS Chairman:

Dear Colleagues,

I need to make you aware of a serious threat to your liability costs. The CO Trail lawyers Assn(CTLA) are pushing legislation to increase caps and abolish peer review protection. There are also November ballot initiatives being drawn. Our patients would decide our fate.

Unraveling liability protection is going to be one more stress you don’t need. We are fighting to find a reasonable solution along with other organizations that support best medicine. We will keep you informed.

You will be asked to help us fight for you in several ways. Today, we are asking you to follow these links and tell your legislators to support us. It is a simple form on the CMS landing page to complete in seconds that will make a huge difference. Thank you.

Why It's Vital to Choose a Doctor-Owned Medical Malpractice Insurer

Robert E. White Jr., President, The Doctors Company and TDC Group

Choosing a medical malpractice insurer involves more than just reviewing the cost of premiums—physicians must consider which insurer has their best interests at heart. Consolidation in the industry has led to shareholder-owned companies acquiring doctor-owned companies and vice-versa. When an acquisition brings a doctor-owned company into the hands of shareholders, physicians have a prime opportunity to ask: Is this the type of insurer I want protecting my reputation?

From Our Friends at:

Twenty years ago, the best way for a medical practice to attract new patients was through print ads, word of mouth, and the occasional billboard. These strategies were effective then, but as technology advances and more people turn to the internet for information, every doctor has to become an expert in digital marketing for their medical practice.
