Faculty Fellowship Focus
LaRose T. Parris, Chair & Associate Professor
(Africana Studies)
| |
"My work reveals how philosophers from the African diaspora use their speeches and writings to catalyze collective progress for humanity." | |
Professor Parris' presentation to scholars in Japan during fellowship leave, The Intersection of Anti-racism, Feminism, and Decolonization, was transcribed into the inaugural issue of Decolonize Futures. In it, thinkers including Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Frantz Fanon, Lewis Gordon, and Angela Davis reveal that philosophical thought from the African diaspora is both central to challenging intersectional forms of oppression that plague humanity and crucial for understanding what it means to be human.
