Spring brings the scholarship awards season, this year made even busier by the FAFSA delay.

Annual Appeal

The Annual Appeal kick-off took place on March 16th at the Americal Civic Center. A terrific group of TSF student directors from Wakefield Memorial High School assembled and addressed this mass mailing. During March, flyers were also included with the WMGLD bills. Once again the support of Wakefield residents has been outstanding!

2024 Fund Sponsor Reception

Celebrating New Permanent and Newly-Renamed Funds

The Fund Sponsor Reception was held on April 28th to recognize and honor new permanent and newly-renamed funds. This event is among our most meaningful and special, where the story behind each fund is shared and certificates are presented. The families and friends of nine funds were in attendance. TSF Recipients Are Doing Great Things!

Bridget Donovan

MGH Nurse Practitioner

Bridget Donovan, a member of the Class of 2013 from Wakefield Memorial High School, continued her education at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMD), graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. During her time at UMD she was President of the Student Nurses Association. Bridget went on to earn her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Regis College in 2023. She is now a Nurse Practitioner in the Allergy and Immunology Clinic at Mass General Hospital. Bridget says: "I have to credit TSF for providing me a scholarship that helped me achieve my dream job!"

Spotlight on a Fund

While TSF’s mission is providing scholarship aid to local students, an equally important role we play is remembering and honoring many of our townspeople and local organizations. This is a role that is very meaningful to TSF. The stories behind each of our funds, including those of individuals who gave much to our town and those whose promise was not realized, are a key part of our success. To remember community members, both young and old, families, local groups and businesses in a positive and active way is a significant reason for our accomplishments since 1960 and our continued growth in aiding Wakefield students.

Robert N. von Klock Fund

Robert von Klock was a member of the Wakefield High School Class of 1950 where he participated in the orchestra, band, and rifle club and co-chaired his class yearbook. He was described as "friendly, diligent, and scholastically brilliant."

The Class Prophecy named him, “most likely to succeed” with a future in teaching. This prediction came true, with Mr. von Klock teaching in Winchester for many years. His peers chose him for several additional superlatives, including “most ambitious,” “most serious,” most sophisticated,” “most diligent,” and “most courteous.”

His participation in music, which began at WHS, continued at the Reading Symphony Orchestra, where he played flute.

Upon his death in 2002, Mr. von Klock bequeathed his entire estate to CSF (now TSF). Howard Snyder and Patrick Skulley of the Wakefield Law Office of Skulley & Snyder, the attorneys and administrators of the Estate of Robert von Klock, are shown in the photo below presenting this substantial bequest to CSF's Pat Mooney.
