The Book Nook
Thank you, Sudbury, for a successful book sale this past weekend! We had a constant flow of customers and it was so fun to see happy readers leaving with their special finds. Thank you to all who helped us pull off this event: our volunteers, the library staff, and everyone who came to buy books.
It’s time to replenish our inventory! We will be holding a book donation drive at the Earth Day celebration at the library on Saturday, April 22, 10am–2pm. Look for details on Facebook, Instagram, and our website.
Sudbury Earth Day will take place on Saturday, April 22, 10am–2pm, at the library. It will feature Mother Earth story time, electric vehicle touch-a-truck, recycled materials crafts, a farmer's market, and more. The library is also inviting local environmentally-focused organizations to educate attendees about opportunities to “go green(er)” in the community.
Museum Pass of the Month:
Garden in the Woods

The Garden in the Woods (Native Plant Trust) displays rare and common native New England plants in a naturalistic setting at its location in Framingham, Massachusetts, attracting visitors from all over the world. Set on 45 acres, it includes two miles of paths that meander over glacier-sculpted ridges and through narrow valleys. A pond, a wooded bog, several springs, and a brook bring a diversity of wildlife into the garden. The garden is maintained by the Native Plant Trust, which works throughout New England to monitor and protect rare and endangered plants, collect and bank seeds for biological diversity, control invasive species, conduct research, and educate the public.

The Goodnow Library Foundation funds the museum pass program at the library, which provides discounted rates at many local museums and attractions in the region. Passes can be reserved up to eight weeks before the date of use. The library’s pass for Garden in the Woods admits 2 adults at 50% admission, and children ages 517 at $1 each. (Regular admission prices: Adults, $16; Seniors 65+, $12; Youth ages 517, $6; Children under 5, free.)
Save the Date: June 21 at 7pm
Soccer Grannies:
Multimedia Event and Author Visit
Join Jean Duffy, author of "Soccer Grannies," and Beka Ntsanwisi, founder of the South African Soccer Grannies team, for a special multimedia event on Wednesday, June 21 at 7pm at the library. This is one of those feel-good stories you won't want to miss!
Soccer Grannies: The South African Women Who Inspire the World tells the story of a team of 40- to 80-year-old women in rural South Africa who defy social convention to play soccer for the companionship and health benefits it provides. Their strength and resiliency help them face life’s challenges with dignity, humor, and hope. They teach the rest of us that age, gender, and expectations cannot define an athlete.
Jean, a soccer player herself, will recount how their shared love of soccer brought the two teams together on both sides of the Atlantic. Beka will share why she formed the team, the struggles she faces, and her dreams for the future. The event also includes a screening of a short documentary about the Soccer Grannies team. Books will be available for purchase. The author is donating books proceeds to the Beka Ntsanwisi Foundation.

He works six days each week, cleaning every shelf, book, and surface, both inside and outside of the building. He likes the quiet space, how everyone is relaxed, and seeing and talking to library visitors. "The Wedding Guest" is his favorite movie.
