Propane Grill Bottle Fill Day

Prudence & Bay Islands Transport is again teaming up with the Prudence Island Volunteer Fire Department and Propane Plus to offer a day of on-island propane grill bottle refills.

This event will take place at the Prudence Island Fire Department on Friday, May 24th.

We encourage the community to use this event to re-fill existing propane grills tanks or purchase new tanks. Propane tanks are not permitted for transport on the ferry on regular passenger runs, help us keep the ferry safe and USCG compliant by utilizing this event.

Memorial Weekend Schedule 2024

Vessel Roanoke

Steady progress continues on vessel Roanoke, which remains hauled out at the shipyard. The structure of the first level passenger cabin and second level passenger deck are complete and currently being painted along with the rest of the vessel. Following paintwork, the cabin finish work can begin including paneling, wiring, window and door installation, etc.

While the painting and finish work is underway, the vessel continues to undergo inspections related to the tonnage conversion. The tonnage conversion was necessary to alter the vessel from the higher tonnage, higher passenger capacity H-class boats operated by the North Carolina ferry system to match the lower tonnage, 150 passenger capacity T-class boats we use to service Prudence Island.

We remain on schedule for the Roanoke to enter service in summer 2024.

We're hiring!

If you are interested in applying, please send us an email to admin@PI-Ferry.com or stop by the ticket office to fill out an application.

Construction Updates

New England Building and Bridge who was awarded the construction contract, has completed the piling work at the Bristol Terminal. This included the installation of new piles to strengthen existing pile clusters, the addition of a new pile cluster for securing the backup ferry vessel, and the removal of damaged piles.

New England Building and Bridge is awaiting materials which has delayed the next phases of the project. On the Bristol side this will include construction of a passenger waiting area and replacement of existing fencing. On the Prudence side, damaged piles will be replaced, and new piles installed to provide secure dockage for vessel Roanoke. Maintenance will be performed on the ramp and gallows. We anticipate this project being completed this season and will continue to provide updates as we receive them.

Notes from PI Officer Joe Tavernier

Check-in with Officer Tavernier at ferry time if you need to register your Golf Cart/Low Speed vehicle.

Help us keep the PI parking lot available by not storing vehicles for extended periods of time. Officer Tavernier is available to assist anyone who needs to move their vehicle to their residence to park instead of storing in the PI lot.
