Spring 2024

Spring is finally here!

This is such a pleasant time of year – filled with extended light and anticipation of new growth and warmth ahead. For children and adolescents, the end of the year is approaching, and anxiety problems may recede! For pediatricians, the intense winter with respiratory illnesses also finally fades, bringing days that are somewhat less chaotic. For obstetric patients and families, spring and summer babies are welcomed. All look forward to the leisure time and joy that the summer brings.

Alas, trauma does not take a vacation for some families, and psychosocial barriers persist for many of our patients. Supporting families through challenging times requires continued attention to self-care. What better time than spring to take advantage of the light with a walk or bike ride after work or to play with kids after school? Reset, rest, and enjoy these glorious moments of spring.

A new grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration allows us to expand the program’s scope to serve pediatric subspecialists, school mental health professionals, and emergency services clinicians and staff. As we move into spring, we are close to wrapping up the second school year of offering support to school-based mental health professionals in select ISDs. Partnering with schools to better support students is very rewarding. We are excited about the progress we’re making in developing our model in emergency departments and look forward to launching this service in Spring 2025.

As the trees and flowers blossom and bloom all around, so does MC3 grow and flourish! Enjoy your spring, and remember that we are always here for you and your patients. No call is too small.

Sheila Marcus, M.D.
