Celebrate International Women's Day

Women in leadership roles across the Saskatchewan amateur sport system


Within Sask Sport’s 74 members (provincial sport organizations, member sport organizations and districts), 45 key positions are women-led including executive directors, presidents/chairs or chief executive officers.

Saskatchewan's rich history of female Olympic and Paralympic medallists


Spanning multiple decades and multiple sports, 35 female Saskatchewan athletes have brought home medals from the Olympic and Paralympic Games.


From the first, Ethel Catherwood, in 1928, to the most recent won by Emily Clark, Lisa DeJong and Brittany Hudak in 2022, see the full list of medallists on Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan.

Women at every position for Saskatchewan female hockey, ringette and lacrosse teams at Canada Games


Team Saskatchewan broke ground at the Canada Winter Games in P.E.I, as both the women's hockey and ringette teams featured all-women staff. Last year, at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Saskatchewan female lacrosse team did the same.


Team Sask featured the hockey and ringette teams in a story on teamsask.ca as well as in a video on the Team Sask Facebook page.

Canada Winter Games wrap up

After winning 17 medals during the first half of the Canada Winter Games in P.E.I, Team Sask added three medals in the second half to bring the overall total to 20 medals. Team Sask finished sixth overall among the 13 provinces and territories.


Four-time Canada Games participant in both the Winter and Summer editions, Krystle Shewchuk, was named Team Sask's flag bearer for the closing ceremonies. She captured a bronze medal in P.E.I in the female Para Nordic sit-ski five-kilometre interval start.

Remembering Sask Sport founding member Don Clark

Sask Sport is deeply saddened by the loss of founding member, Don Clark.



Don helped found Sask Sport in 1972 and served on the board from 1977 to 1979 as the first Vice President of Programs. During his time on the board, he worked with universities to develop assistance programs for athletes, and furthered volunteer recognition through the fall conference and awards program.

Sport. It's More Than A Game - Alex Clarke

Dash competing for Canada at World Wheelchair Curling Championship

Gil Dash and the Saskatchewan wheelchair curling team

Gil Dash felt a sense of relief when he was officially named to Team Canada for the upcoming World Wheelchair Curling Championship.


“It felt like a great accomplishment to be able to get a real maple leaf to wear on my back,” said Dash.


The event runs Mar. 4-12 in Richmond, B.C. Dash is joined by fellow Saskatchewan product Marie Wright (Moose Jaw) on Team Canada.

Physical and Health Saskatchewan Conference back March 30

The Physical and Health (PHE) Saskatchewan Conference (formerly the SPEA Conference) is back. The conference is being jointly put on with Sport for Life and Physical Literacy Saskatchewan.


Individuals or groups are invited to be a part of the Conference Displayer Venue on Thursday, March 30 at the Physical Activity Complex at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. There will be no charge to groups who wish to display this year.

Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame seeking nominations

The Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame is looking for nominations of athletes, builders or teams for the upcoming induction.


The deadline for nominations is April 1, annually.

This blog from the Sport Information and Resource Centre, with insights from the Charge the Game pen data portal, reflects on study findings concerning affordability, why it is important to prioritize free or low-cost opportunities when a multitude of barriers exist and share calls to action for sport funders and policymakers.
