February is Black History Month

February is known across the country as Black History Month.


The month is about honouring the contributions that Black people have made, and continue to make, in all sectors of society including sport.


Sask Sport is committed to providing fun, safe and healthy sport environments, as well as encouraging and supporting diverse and inclusive sport opportunities. Throughout the month of February, resources, information and stories will be shared to celebrate Black History Month through the eyes of sport.

Olympic diver Rylan Wiens is our first "Sport. It's More Than A Game" ambassador.

Team Sask announces full contingent and flag bearer for 2023 Canada Winter Games

Team Sask has announced the full contingent of athletes that will represent the province in 20 different sports at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.


217 athletes, 74 coaches, 27 mission staff members and 26 officials from 60 different communities across Saskatchewan will come together to represent the province on the national stage.


Saskatoon speed skater Luca Veeman was also announced as Saskatchewan's flag bearer at the opening ceremonies on Feb. 18. The Games running to March 5.

Saskatchewan Sport Awards celebrate athletes, coaches officials and volunteers

For the first time since 2019, supporters from Saskatchewan and across Canada gathered in person to celebrate the finalists and recipients of the 2022 Saskatchewan Sport Awards on Jan. 26 in Saskatoon.

Women in Sport Breakfast held in Saskatoon

Paralympic snowboarder Lisa DeJong, Olympic hockey player Emily Clark, Olympic hockey official Alexandra Clarke, high performance soccer coach Jennie Waldner and national-team physio and athletic therapist Rhonda Shishkin highlighted the Women in Sport Breakfast hosted by celebrity guest emcee Tara Slone.

Physical and Health Saskatchewan Conference back March 30

The Physical and Health (PHE) Saskatchewan Conference (formerly the SPEA Conference) is back. The conference is being jointly put on with Sport for Life and Physical Literacy Saskatchewan.


Individuals or groups are invited to be a part of the Conference Displayer Venue on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the PAC Center at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. There will be no charge to groups who wish to display this year.

Canadian Paralympic Committee launches 2023-24 Paralympic Sport Development Fund

The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) is officially accepting applications for the 2023-24 Paralympic Sport Development Fund, in support of sport organizations across Canada offering quality Para sport initiatives. 


The Paralympic Sport Development Fund provides grants for local sport organizations, clubs and programs that help athletes along their development pathway, including for items like recruitment initiatives, coaching, equipment, competition and more.


Funds can be used to support the creation of a new program or the expansion of an existing successful initiative.

As a result, social media has become an increasingly commercialized space within the sporting industry, with brands and sponsors seeking to reach consumers through athletes’ platforms.
