THE POWER OF THREE

Many people, including Confucius, believe that good things come in threes, and that the power of three is a big deal; and so it was that the second half of the 2023 season rolled off to a terrific start. Three teams (Wise guys, Nor’easters, and Pocket Pounders) completed three-game sweeps of their opponents, finishing 1-2-3 in team scratch and handicap game and series

scoring. Also bowling well and winning three of four points in each of their matches were the Pin Tails, Livin’On A Spare, and Split Happens. Finally, three individuals (Dave Connally, Ray Cook, and Bill Doody) bowled the night’s three highest scratch and handicap games and series respectively.

The top scores of the night were bowled by: Dave Connally-662(269,215), Ray Cook-654(256,221), Bill Doody-622(245,215), Ken Rienth-622(202,233), Rich Shanley-613(234), Rich Wantuck-601(225,225), Rich Plant-598(216), Robert Farrell-590(237), Bret Sigillo-583(203,231), Joe Stiene-570(220), Kevin Kremler-559, Mark Zaenglein-551, Dennis Mancinelli-533, David Logue-531(209), Harry Shoudy-530(211), Jim Sieberkrob-526, Madis Smit-522,

Dick Schondelmeier-519(212), and Dan Conrad-204.

St. James Bocce League

St. James Bocce administers a 1-on-1 bocce 'ladder'. A 'ladder' is a competitive list of players who challenge each other to matches with the goal of rising to the top of the list.

Players of all skill levels are invited to play on Saturday mornings during open play at Waterway Park from 10 till Noon. This is a great opportunity to try out Bocce if you have never played or wish to polish your skills. Spring League information will be coming out soon.

To sign-up for the ladder, receive notifications about League sign ups or for general questions email us here.

St. James MYC Race Results

STJMYC Winter Series, week of Jan 5

The STJMYC has elected new officers for the coming two years: Terry McCormick as Commodore and Kevin Richter as Vice Commodore. Many thanks to Past Commodore Mark Hamer who did a four year stint and passed on the baton.

The first race of the year was the Frostbite Regatta, (inaptly named as it was around 70 degrees!). Light and fluky winds made for a fun day of racing.

The Nirvana/DF65 class results:

1. Harry Howard

2. Dick Denzler

3. Ray Cook/Pete Flynn,(tie)

The Dragon 95 class had:

1. Dick Denzler

2. Charlie Sweeney

3. Steve Stopa

4. Karl Thompson

Thursday was the initial seasonal race and had a nice breeze out of the WSW. RO Neal Boucher set a complex course with multiple crisscross situations. The Nirvana/DF65 class had five different winners:

Mark Hamer had 2, while Dick Denzler, Ken Bates, Kevin Richter and Charlie Sweeney each had one. In the Dragon 95 fleet, Charlie S had 5 wins, Ken Bates 1 and Dick Denzler had 4 2nds.

Nirvana Standings

1. Dick Denzler .8882

2. Mark Hamer .8782

3. C, Sweeney .8638

DragonFlite 95 Standings
