Either One or the Other
Last night a team was either the shutter or the shuttee. And individually, top honors were either shared by Ken Updike and Robert Farrell, or Kevin Kremler, who took second in all the other categories. Twenty two of the twenty four available team points were won by six teams, including four shut out victories. The other six teams won a combined two points. With just two weeks left, only two points now separate third place from tenth place. Ken Updike bowled both the night’s high scratch game(276) and high hdcp game(292), while Robert Farrrell had the evening’s high scratch series(672) and high hdcp series(777). Kevin Kremler bowled the second best scratch game(258), scratch series(654),hdcp game(279), and hdcp series(717). Other top scores from last week were bowled by Rich Plant-641(200,209,232), Doug Voegtlin-628(201,248), Rich Shanley-609(221), Dave Connally-606(219,211), Bill Doody-595(235), Rich Wantuck-574(222,223), Rich Baytosh-567, Tom Green–558(222), Mark Zaenglein-549, Bret Sigillo-536(221), John Lanoue-532, Tom Harrington–530(225), Dennis Mancinelli-524, Sam Stern-519(213), Ray Cook-(510(202), Harry Shoudy-504, and Mike Romanovsky-500.

Bocce Semi-Finals
On December 4, the St. James Bocce league played its semi-final games. The first matchup saw the #1 seed, Bocce Blasters led by Captain Nat Scaccianoce, square off against the #4 seed, DeBoccery led by Captain Wayne Dennis. Each team dominated one of the courts. On Court #1, the combination of Mike Ross, Jeanne Agnello and Bob Casterline swept all three games for DeBoccery, including a 9-8 battle! Not to be outdone, Captain Nat and Rob Faulkner swept Court #2 for Bocce Blasters, also including a 9-8 battle! All eyes turned to Court #3 where Bob Paterson (playing solo due to various player availability issues) of the Bocce Blasters secured the semi-final victory. After splitting the first two games against a determined combination of Don Amaya, Jean Ross and Pete Tuminelli (including another 9-8 squeaker), Bob won the very close decisive game 9-7. Congratulations to the Bocce Blasters!
In the second match, the #2 seed, Roll On led by Captain Ed Boyers, took on the #3 seed, Rolling Thunder, led by Captain Jerry Klawitter. On Courts #1 and #2, the teams each split their first two games. Rolling Thunder’s pairing of Dennis Kennedy and Kathy Kunze split on Court #1 against Roll On’s Dan Diehl and Lou D’Abramo in a match that saw a come from behind victory by the Roll On pair. On Court #2, the Rolling Thunder combination of Ed Rau, Bob Kunze and Jerry Klawitter held off a furious comeback attempt by Roll On’s Ed Boyers and Sue Boyers to earn their split in the first two games. On Court #3, Karen Del Sordo and John Del Sordo played well as they rolled to a sweep and secured the victory for Rolling Thunder! Congratulations to Rolling Thunder!
The finals will be held at Waterway Park on Sunday December 11 at 2:30PM and will mark the end of the season. Good luck to both teams.

The Cape Fear Fly Fishing Club includes anglers from St. James as well as Oak Island, Southport and Wilmington areas. We were founded in November 2006 for fly anglers interested in fishing saltwater and freshwater locally as well as waters from Alaska to Argentina.
We have a recreational, educational and conservation focus with a purpose “to provide our membership with an informal and relaxed forum for education, intellectual exchange and resource stewardship through the sport of fly fishing.” Members have all skill levels – beginner to expert.
Join us if you’re interested in meeting some great people, learning more about the wonderful sport of fly fishing and supporting our mission to enjoy, educate and ensure the future of fly fishing for generations to come. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 18 at St James Community Center at 6PM.
