Building a safe sport system for Canada

Recognizing the importance of sport in Canada yet addressing issues of maltreatment, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, has initiated the Future of Sport in Canada Commission. They will conduct an 18-month review of Canada's sports system and will make recommendations for improvements on safe sport. This process will be trauma-informed, survivor-centered and human rights-based.

The government is enhancing the independence of sports integrity bodies by focusing on athlete-centered decision-making, with plans to improve accountability, the development of a comprehensive Sport Integrity Framework, and ensuring safer, more respectful sporting environment nationwide.
