Questions

I have heard so many comments about how beautiful the church looks with its new paint job! It is gorgeous, but apparently there is some misunderstanding about how it was paid for. There was no “big donation”.

As we presented at the annual meeting, the money we are saving at the moment by not having to pay a pastor’s salary, was set aside for maintenance projects that were necessary and for the additional costs we may incur if we are moving a new pastor here.

Before the church was painted, it was power washed and all the caulking was repaired. As they were powering washing the back wall, it was noted that no water ran down. It all soaked into the cinder block. So, it was definitely a necessary project.

Transition Process Outline -- Spirit of Hope

1. Select transitional consultant

2. Consultant has meeting with Council

3. Form and Install the Transition Team

4. Consultant in person visit: Develop study strategy and present to the congregation

5. Transition Team conducts self-study (listening circles).

6. Council and Transition Team have on-going zoom meetings with consultant to analyze data.

7. Transition Report is complete and made available to the congregation

8. Form and commission a Call Committee

9. Consultant meets with Call Committee for orientation

Consultant meets with Council to develop a plan forward

Consultant presents findings of the self study process and next steps to the congregation This was completed this past weekend!!!!

10.Call Committee completes the Ministry Site Profile ( MSP)-4-6 weeks

11. Tri -Transition Meeting (Council, Transition Team and Call committee)

12. Consultant sends all info to Synod

13. Council affirms MSP and submits to the Office of the Bishop

14. Bishop’s Office affirms the MSP and publishes it to the ELCA website

15. Begin receiving candidates, interviews, visits etc.

16. Extend a call

· Someone will be in the church office Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am-1pm

· Messages will be picked up from the Church voicemail on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sunday.

· We have a very active Lay Ministry Team. If you would like a visit, please leave a message at Church or contact the Prayer Ministry Team. To be added to the public prayer concern list please contact the church office (480-396-8300) if you would like to add someone else to the public prayer concerns list. Please obtain their consent first. There is a box on the info desk at church where you can slip in a note about someone you wish us to pray for. Please print. These requests, along with those in the newsletter will be added during our worship services for 3 weeks.

STUDY - THE TORAH

The first five books of the Hebrew Bible--- Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

There will not be any study during the months of June and July.

Morning Bible Study – “Too Big For Starbuck’s”

Women's Thursday Afternoon Bible Study

The Thursday Women’s Bible Study is held on Thursdays at 1:00 PM in the church classroom. We will continue our study from the Gather Magazine.

New members are always most welcome as together we grow in God’s GRACE and LOVE.

Prayer Gathering

For the months of June and July all are invited to gather at church at 10:30 on Tuesday mornings to pray for the Call Committee and future pastor.

Do you have some miscellaneous jobs around the house that need to be done or some yard work? Remember, you should not be climbing up ladders!

James Shelbourn is willing to help you out. He has helped with the landscaping at church too. Pay would be between $25 and $50 an hour depending on how labor intensive the job would be. Call James today at 402-630-1059.

The Torgersens had James do a bunch of jobs for them last week and he did a terrific job. They recommend hiring him to get any odd jobs completed!

We pray for those church members who are struggling with many health issues, anxiety, etc.

Prayers for Lupita Goch's son, Haik Aron Goch, as he is doing his Airborne school.

Lord, guide all who are struggling this week with health, loss and grief. Help us be angels that shine the Light of Christ upon them giving encouragement as they need. Amen

Growing In Faith/Diakonia Presents:

Exploring Your Spiritual Gifts Retreat

What does God want of me? How am I to serve God? Do I have a spiritual gift? What is it? How am I to use it? What kind of ministry is God calling me to?

To help you answer them we are sponsoring a retreat called Exploring Your Spiritual Gifts. Through a series of exercises and conversations you will be guided in a process of discernment about your gifts. By the end of the retreat you should know the gifts God has given you and begin to understand how God wa

nts you to use them.

Dates: First 3 Saturdays in August: August 3, 10, 17 from

9:00 AM to Noon

Class is online only – you will receive the Zoom link upon registration.

Registration Fee is $35

Our retreat leader is Rev. Stewart McDonald. A long-time Diakonia instructor, he is leader of two of courses in the Tucson cohorts: Images of the Church in the Bible and Beyond; and Daily Life of a Christian. He has led this Spiritual Gifts retreat any number of times over the last 30 years with excellent results, including three times with Diakonia.

So come join us on this adventure of discernment and answer the questions you have been asking yourself.
