CALL Connections

Media That Makes a Difference

Changemakers Alliance is a supporter-driven spinoff of Minnesota Women's Press, designed to connect engaged feminists who care about solutions and action, and to take stories off the page into conversations.

Special Announcement from Mikki

A few months ago, our beloved co-editor Lydia Moran announced that she was ready for new adventures, especially in the outdoors, and that her last day with Minnesota Women's Press would be April 19. In February we lost our part-time outreach director Crystal Brown, who needs more flexibility for her family of girls. Amy Grenier, the sales associate who started with us in January, has been pulled away by a higher-paying job with a company she had talked with last year.

We gathered on Friday for a bon voyage bowl.

So, big transitions for our small team. But I do feel more optimistic about our future stability than I did six months ago. Our authentic community connections are paying off in wonderful ways — not only with enhanced coverage, and statewide conversations we are planning, but in receiving new underwriting contracts that support our unique content.

In other big news, we are moving into the next phase of editorial development. In the past, Lydia and I would research and connect with community to determine the storytellers for each monthly theme. Yesterday, I met on Zoom with a team of 12 editorial board members who represent different communities and geographies — leading to wider perspectives on story ideas for upcoming themes and the new Collective Health series. I am very excited about this new step.

Editorial board members currently consist of: Natalie Copeland, Zibiquah Denny, Katie Dohman, Comfort Dondo, Sara Gruidl, Nora Hertel, Andrea Pierre, Victoria Spurna, Ella Stern, Priscilla Trinh, Joyce Tofte, and Alexis Yeboah

Special Request from a third-grade student in Virginia

This young man was assigned to learn more about Minnesota for a State Fair project. He is looking to collect some items such as poscards, pictures, souvenirs, and other unique items about Minnesota pride. He has questions he would love to learn about such as: Why do you live in your state? What is your job? What do people in Minnesota do for fun? What traditional foods or recipes are Minnesotan? What music from our state is important to you? Describe the geography of our state that appeals most to you.

He needs the information by early May. You could send it to:
